Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia

Amref Health Africa, headquartered in Kenya, is the largest Africa based international non-governmental organisation (NGO) currently running programs in over 35 countries in Africa with lessons learnt over 60 years of engagement with governments, communities and partners to increase sustainable health access in Africa. Amref Health Africa also incorporates programme development, fundraising, partnership, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and has offices in Europe and North America as well as subsidiaries; Amref Flying Doctors, Amref Enterprises and the Amref International University. Amref Health Africa has been active in Ethiopia since the 1960’s and became fully operational and registered as an international NGO in 2002.

Integrated Intervention On Sanitation Marketing, Agriculture, Rural Development and Transformation/Smart/ Project is a three years project (June 1, 2018 - June 31, 2021) in Gambella region. Funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation/AICS/, the project works towards improving access to safe water and sanitation services and integrating hygiene practices that help improve health and general wellbeing of targeted communities in Gambella.

As part of its efforts to document best practices, success stories/significant achievements and lesson learnt, Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia looks for a media and communication consultant to produce a          8-10 minute long documentary in Amharic language with English subtitle and 3-5 minutes video (drawn from the the long documentary) in English language.

 Objective of the Consultancy

The main purpose of this consultancy is to produce a 8-10 minute long documentary film featuring project accomplishment in Amharic with English subtitle and 3-5 minutes shortened version video in English language only. Both need to feature achievements of the project. 

Specifically the consultant is expected to:

• Conduct a desk review of relevant documents as provided in order to familiarize with project issue.
• Meet in person with Amref Health Africa Ethiopia communication and SBCC team for technical advice.
• Produce an elaborate script in close collaboration with Amref Health Africa and SMART project field office WASH program ,M&E, communication and SBCC team of central office.
• Prepare and share a detailed work plan.
• Travel to project intervention woredas , Gambella woreda Gambelal region for filming and interviewing beneficiaries in their natural setting.
• Work with the Amref Health Africa‘s communication, SBCC and M&E team to ensure Amref Health Africa’s and donor’s brand identity guidelines for logo, language use and related brand identity for comment.
• Organize material and produce 8-10 minute documentary film in Amharic with English subtitle, from which 3-5 minutes video documentary will be developed in English language only.
• Share draft copy to be reviewed by the project team and the communication unit to get approval for final packaging.
• Make necessary change after discussing with Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia project team and communication unit.
• Produce the final master copy of the documentary and deliver with flash disc for approval from Amref Health Africa.
• Ensure the two documentaries are of broadcast standard for use on website, TV transmission, and external as well as internal dissemination.
• Deliver the material in time as discussed and agreed with Amref Health Africca in Ethiopia. 

Job Requirements

• Registered and renewed license for the fiscal year.
• VAT registration and Tin number registration.
• CV with relevant experiences as a firm in producing documentary and CVs of team of expertise
• Technical and financial proposals with clear and distinct financial breakdowns and reporting schedule
• Proven advanced skill in documentary production and film making, communication and media, and related areas
• Advanced knowledge of Ethiopian WASH implementation particularly on the status and key functions WASH facilities in rural setting
• Demonstrable professional writing and narrative skill
• Ability to deliver on time (three weeks after contract agreement is signed)
