Job Description

Comunità Volontari per il Mondo (CVM) is a non-profit making Christian Organization based in Ancona, Italy. It was founded in 1978 by a group of people who had deeply dedicated but also had the concern to help people in their struggle to exist in this world irrespective of who are and where they are from. Comunità Volontari per il Mondo (CVM) has been working in Ethiopia since 1995, focusing its work on water, hygiene, and sanitation, HIV prevention, and control through socio-health interventions; promotion of social policies and human rights; promoting social inclusion and minority rights; support for training and access to education; socio-economic and micro-credit development, Decent work for domestic workers and safe migration. 

CVM is implementing a project entitled “Provision of Assistance, Protection, Repatriation, and Reintegration Program for Ethiopian Migrant Domestic Workers (returnees) in Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, SNNP, and Tigray regions. 

CVM is recruiting a competent social worker with preference expertise in returnees’ reintegration programs, safer migration and/or anti-human trafficking, and experience in business database management.

Full-Time Position of 40 hours per week

Reporting to: Project facilitator  

About the Position

This is an exciting and demanding role for an outstanding individual with experience in working with people and with crucial competence required for this role eg experience of business database base management, communication etc.

The social worker is responsible for daily follow up and communication with over 362 reintegrated returnees and local stakeholders, collect the business monitoring data and update the business database & analysis on regular basis, collect the necessary background information of new returnees, collect and document case stories and best practices of the project. 

The social worker will be an employee of the CVM Addis Ababa Shelter office and join the team working with returnee migrant workers. 

 Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and organizing her /his work. 
  • Daily communication and follow up to collect data form the 362 reintegrated returnees, business monitoring, back up on business development. Enter all data into data base system and analyses.
  • Collect the necessary background information of new returnees and update database management system with business development and analyses. 
  • Assist the project facilitator and other shelter teams in organizing different training such as BBS, life skill, anti-trafficking, etc. 
  • Communication with local stakeholders ensure linkage with returnee migrant worker concerning the business support and monitoring of 362 returnees.  
  • Assist the project facilitator in reviewing the business plan of project beneficiaries and ensure value for money.  
  • Maintain good knowledge and information on new developments and practices around migrant protection and reintegration and other related migration management topics.
  • Track and analysis the business of returnees according to time plans and report weekly analyses to the project facilitator. 
  • Collect and document case stories and best practices of the project and report to the project facilitator.  
  • Ensure proper documentation and record of all activities undertaken by the project.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local authorities, shelter staff, frontline organizations and civil society actors, and any other relevant key stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with his/her portfolio and escalate as per the CVM systems and policies with support from the project facilitator.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

CVM seeks an energetic, thoughtful, and committed Social Worker and preference to candidate who have experience working with migrant workers/returnees and/or marginalized communities and a track record of implementing development programs with strong communication, business database management & analysis.

  • Advanced or university degree in Sociology, Social work, psychology, Economics, Business Management, and related Social Science fields of study. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in assisting returnees and managing their business. 
  • Knowledge and experience of managing returnees/domestic workers, safer migration, and/or anti-human trafficking programs. 
  • Have a proven track record of business database management and monitoring of activities as well as effective communication with returnees and/or marginalized domestic workers.
  • Communication skills
  • Experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders and coordinating with government stakeholders.
  • Fluent in Amharic and English.
  • Computer literate and high proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (especially Word and Excel) and database analysis.  
  • Knowledge of migrant worker experiences and rights.

  • Build relationships with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, displaying strong initiative in solving day-to-day problems with limited direction. A team player committed to CVM values and pillars.  
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage, track and organize data, including numerical data.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as required.
