Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:

  • The purpose of the Assistant Financial Accountant position will assist the finance officers and coordinators to carry out activities in finance including petty cash management. She/he will assist with quality control, financial reporting and monitoring. The role holder will also provide assistance in ensuring appropriate systems and procedures (petty cash management, vendor payments, workshop/training payments and other related to financial management) are in place to properly disburse, record, which are cost effective, timely, have proper internal controls and comply with SCI internal policy procedure.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Functional relationship- HR, Logistics and Budget holders 

Responsibilities:

  •  Collect funds and makes various payments as per the authorization and approval of Budget Holders and in accordance with SCI’s financial management policy
  • Ensures that all collections and payments are done against serially pre-numbered cash receipt and cash payment vouchers.
  • Ensures safe security of cash and other related checks and CPOs in the office and initiate weekly and monthly cash counts, including spot counts;
  •  Always keeps cash, checks, and CPOs in the safe deposit box as per the regulation of SCI
  •  Maintains petty cash fund and prepares cash report with all supporting documents and gets replenished upon reviewed by treasury manager and approved by delegated SMT
  •  Prepares receipt vouchers and collects cash and/or cheque from various sources and organizations and deposits to SCI bank account within three days
  •  Prepares receipt vouchers and collects refunds for personal telephone, faxes and vehicle use
  •  Ensures weekly and monthly cash count is done and the count sheet forwarded to Head of Treasury and Disbursement.
  • Reconciles cash accounts with financial documents and updates the cash book regularly
  •  Prepare General Ledger and Cash Offline Spread sheet (GLACOS) for all transactions that has to be reviewed and posted by the Finance Coordinator.
  • Reviewing and reconciling working and travel advance on daily bases
  •  Fill the gap of the finance officer’s role while on leave
  •  Performs all other duties related to the position

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree in livelihoods, development studies, economics or related field.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in international humanitarian and/or development aid, preferably with migrant, returnees and refugee adolescent and youth.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Livelihood modalities, adolescent and youth livelihood empowerment in the migration, refugee and returnee in Ethiopian context.
  • Technical expertise, knowledge and experience in migration, Livelihood support, Psychosocial service provision and Multispectral referral linkage mechanisms to avail improved and integrated services.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Micro and Small Scale Enterprises (MSEs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions (TVETs), MFIs, Private Enterprises/employers, and Youth Centers.
  • Practical experience in job matching, enterprise development and employment and BDS services for job seeker and business starters youth.
  • Training facilitation for youth and post training mentoring and coaching of youth to increase their employment success.
  • Robust analytical and strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrable track record of meeting or exceeding program targets as per the plan, whilst maintaining program quality.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching/mentoring.
  • Appreciation and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with partners, local organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to take personal initiative and responsibility for completing tasks to a high standard and to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexibly and professionally in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.
