Job Description

Overall role specific responsibilities

  • Contribute to the learning through play methodology in coordination with the LEGO project Coordinator.
  • Effectively participate in relevant meetings and trainings and contribute to the development and quality implementation of the project.
  • Provide trainings and on-sport mentoring to teachers and community mobilizers based on the LEGO trainings requirements and necessities.
  • Monitor and advise on the learning through play implementation techniques in schools, child friendly space and in the community recreational zones. 
  • Participate in the development and the review of the training materials as necessary, and it is implementation and impact.
  • Support and monitor the engagement of teachers and community mobilizers and CP facilitators through the implementation of the activities in schools, CFSs as well as in the communal zones.
  • Provide training and on-spot mentoring to the selected caregivers and community structures including PTAs in schools on the use of the “Learning through Play” tools.
  • Train and support the Teachers recruited through the Teachers Training College or other institutes on the “Learning through Play” concept and the implementation of the activities required.
  • Conduct daily visits to the selected schools and child friendly spaces in the fields, to evaluate the ongoing performance.
  • Advocate children rights to learn and play through this concept.
  • ENaSubmit reports on a bi-weekly and monthly basis on key issues related to the implementation of the “Learning through Play” concept including good practices and challenges. 

Planning and Reporting:

  • In close collaboration with LEGO project coordinators, S/He will prepare monthly, quarterly and annual work plan, and ensures timely submission at the respective camp level.
  • Provide follow-up and technical support for schools to ensure preparation of timely and quality weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual project LEGO project specific progress reports on the agreed templates
  • Compile school level activity plans and reports for their respective camps, and ensures timely submission for Save the Children Gambella field Office.

Coordination and Management of projects Implementation

  • Ensure the LEGO-UNHCR 2021 project is implemented in ways responsive to teachers, the community, and children needs in line with Save the Children principles, values and strategic plan.
  • Ensures integration of the LEGO-UNHCR 2021 project activities with government partner/ARRA and other implementing NGO partners.
  • Identify gaps, provide technical and capacity building supports for teacher's and LEGO-UNHCR project targeted schools
  • In close collaboration with the LEGO Project Coordinator and other support units (at Field office and camp level), WEO and other government stakeholders, facilitate on time implementation of the LEGO-UNHCR project activities based on the detail implementation plan and ensure implementation quality
  • Ensure active participation of children and other stakeholders in the LEGO-UNHCR project activities implementation

Supervision and Monitoring

  • In collaboration with the LEGO Project Coordinator and government stakeholders, maintain strong

supervision and monitoring system to measure achievement and progress toward the project objectives

and expected outcomes and impacts

  • Conduct monitoring and supervision of the planned project activities implementation and provide

technical support for teacher’s, community mobilizers, intervention schools and child friendly spaces to improve activities implementation quality

  • Strengthen participatory and collaborative supervision and monitoring system including active

participation of children

Staff Management and Mentorship

  • Strengthen team spirit and team work
  • Ensure that the target schools understand and are able to perform their role based on the project objectives

and expected outcomes

  • In collaboration with the LEGO Project Coordinator, facilitate recruitment and capacity building support of refugee incentive community mobilizers as appropriate.
  • In close collaboration with the Project Coordinator, provide leadership and manage the performance of the intervention schools, child friendly spaces and other villages based learning corners.

Capacity Building

  • In collaboration with the LEGO Project Coordinator, UNHCR, ARRA, ASU, Save the Children and other government stakeholders, identify gaps and facilitate capacity building training and relevant technical supports for community mobilizers, supervisors, teachers, students, parents and other key project stakeholders.
  • Arrange experience-sharing media among schools and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the required appropriate technical support is provided for community mobilizers, directors, teachers, supervisors and students on time and strengthen team spirit and collaborative work.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALFICATION, EXPEREINCE, COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education and other social sciences 
  • Minimum of 4 years working experience preferable with NGOs especially in development and emergency education projects.
  • Willingness to live in a hardship area
  • Team working and ability to work under pressure.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft word and excel).
  • Good communication skills – in English, Amharic and local language.
  • Good organization and attention to detail
  • Strong report writing skills
