Purpose of the Job:

To provide leadership and technical guidance on implementation of GIS in Livelihood and Nutrition Technical program primarily for Regreening the Glob project and Promote Application of GIS Technology to maximize the efficiency of planning, baseline, monitoring, programming evaluation and special decision making. He/she provide up to date information/data for the project team to effectively and efficiently implement livelihood Projects.

Major activities:

Leadership

• Provide guidance and leadership for the overall management of GIS for Livelihood projects
• Mentor, coach and provide managerial and technical support to the GIS officer, program staffs, data collectors in respect to GIS activity of the Technical program and RtG project
• Plan, coordinate and take part in the collection, evaluation and dissemination of geographic information, facilitate need assessment and gap identification of GIS skills and application of division’s sector offices, Cluster program (CP) and Area Programs (AP)s;
• Identify GIS innovations, infrastructure needed, gaps and facilitate the implementation
• Coordinates and network with Divisions, sector offices, CP, APs and other governmental, Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and private organizations;
• Preparation of GIS implementation annual action Plan 
• Update and maintain country level geo-database for the need of WVE;
• Update and maintain project level Geo-database;
• Plan and provide technical support to projects under the technical programs.
• Produce GIS outputs/results of different assessments, baseline surveys, design and redesign processes and monitoring and evaluation activities; 

Provides Technical Support

• Facilitate technical support to WVE on the use of GIS and remote sensing and other spatial data, information, tools and techniques;
• Attend and contribute to professional meetings, seminars, workshops, meetings and conferences related to geo-information issues internally as well as externally;·        Coordinate data collection and update and maintain geospatial information and producing GIS outputs/results;
• Update and maintain GIS server and web applications;

Training & Capacity Building

• Plan, coordinate and facilitate awareness creation of GIS applications among higher management, division sector office and program staffs of the organization
• Plan, coordinate and facilitate training manual development and conducts GIS and remote sensing training program staff to develop skilled staff on the use of GIS, remote sensing and other geo-information tools and techniques.

Job Requirements

Educational level required  

• MSc degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cartography, Geography or related fields.
• Technical Training qualifications required: Geodatabase, GIS Server and Web application, Database management system, mobile GIS, Remote sensing software, networking and Hardware Maintenance and troubleshooting

Experience: 5 years of experience in the field

• Other: Experience in Remote Sensing is preferred.
• Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement
• Office-based 75%
• Travel: 25 % Frequent travel to project site, (RO, CPO & AP travel) 

Duration of the Contract: One Year
