Job summary

As a site engineer, your input to construction projects will be technical, organizational and supervisory. You'll be responsible for the construction of hardscape and soft scape site (civil) works, health and safety, and the managing and supervision of material and human resources.

Summary of job functions

  • Inspecting facilities and analyzing operational data.
  • Acting as the main technical adviser and supervisor on a construction site for onsite laborers, subcontractors, craftspeople and operatives. Negotiating with suppliers and vendors for the best contracts and overseeing the selection and requisition of materials.
  • Setting out, leveling and managing the surveyor on site.
  • Checking plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy of calculations.
  • Preparing interim payment certificates.
  • Hiring day laborers and renting machinery and equipment when needed.
  • Acting as a Foreman for smaller projects when needed.
  • Ensuring that all materials used and works are performed in accordance with the specifications.
  • Managing, monitoring and interpreting the contract design documents supplied by the client or the office.
  • Cooperating with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project.
  • Cooperating with the local authority (where appropriate to the project) to ensure compliance with local construction regulations and by-laws.
  • Communicating with clients and their representatives (architects, engineers and surveyors), including attending regular meetings to keep them informed of progress.
  • Planning the work and efficiently organizing the plant and site facilities in order to meet agreed-on deadlines. Having day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labor force and the work of any subcontractors
  • Making sure the project is completed on schedule and budget and developing and managing a detailed project schedule and work plan.
  • Overseeing quality control and health and safety matters on site.
  • Preparing reports as required.
  • Resolving any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.

Experience/education requirements

  • BSc Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience for a minimum of 3 years in civil work, landscape construction and as a site engineer.
