Job Description

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

Salary.......................................... Birr 9,056 (ETB nine thousand fifty six)

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and conduct experimental studies with insects in controlled or natural surroundings
  • Collect and analyze biological data and specimens
  • Research, initiate, and maintain breeding programs for insects
  • Write research papers, reports, and scholarly articles that explain findings
  • Work mainly at the Adama lab with relocation to the main lab in Addis as might be necessary
  • Involve in field data collection, data maintenance and reporting
  • Coordinate with team members
  • Report to the laboratory coordinator timely
  • Detect wastage and improve efficiency in the lab
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ethical behavior
  • Willing to assume extra responsibilities as might be necessary
  • Harmonize organizational skills
  • Good observational skills

Job Requirements

  • MSc in Medical Entomology; OR
  • BSc in Medical Entomology AND 2 years related experiences   

Added advantage

  • Experience of working in insectary with disease vector
  • Good knowledge and experience in using Microsoft office programs
  • Good commitment and ability to work in team while achieving intended goal
