Purpose: Ethiopia is experiencing different public health emergencies; timely and effective risk forecasting/identification through community, event and disease surveillance, monitoring and disaster/emergency mapping and communication to stakeholders enable us to effectively prepare, manage or mitigate risks to public health. PHEM need competitive and experienced employees to do the above-mentioned activities.

Job description:

• Collect, analyze and interpret surveillance, meteorological, environmental and other health related data to identify/forecast any public health emergencies and risks.
• Conduct media scanning to collect any international and national public health emergencies and risks occurrence
• Predict/forecast extent of damage, magnitude of impact and the likelihood occurrence of public health emergencies.
• Prepare and transmit early warning and alerting massages for appropriate stakeholders (regions, partners and different sectors).
• Develop and provide strategies for responsible bodies to prevent, mitigate and manage identified/forecasted/predicted public health emergencies and risks.
• Provide media brief, press release and key awareness creation health messages (IEC and BCC material) on identified/forecasted public health emergencies and risks to the public through different social medias (Facebook, TV, radio)
• Collaborate with other directorates, partners and sectors to avoid or reduce the consequence of identified/forecasted public health emergencies and risks.
• Participate in checklist development and conduct different assessments and supervisions related to public health 
• Develop guidelines, training manuals, training materials and provide capacity building trainings for national, regional, zonal, woreda and health facility level health workers to strengthen the surveillance performance to forecast, communicate, prevent, detect, mitigate and manage public health emergencies and risks.
• Develop and transmit appropriate advocacy messages on Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) activities and new projects for the stakeholders.
• Work with GIS experts to map at risk areas for public health emergency occurrence
• Prepare and submit cumulative and progress implementation report of assigned task
• Carryout tasks assigned by his/her immediate supervisor
• Experience on advocacy and communication material development and communication
• Ability to meet task deadlines; work independently and cooperatively with team members
• Professional experience in public health emergency related tasks has added value
• Knowledge and understanding of public health emergencies related issues has added value

• MSc in Health education, Communication or promotion.
• Experience on advocacy and communication material development and communication

Required Skills and Expertise:

• Ability to write high quality reports, working ability in a team and emergency situations
• Training on PHEM, PHEOC, risk communication, community engagement and health related emergency field mission experience has added value
