To strengthen our highly committed and passionate team we are looking for a Grant Officer.

Role profile:

As grant officer you are responsible for finance compliance and risk management working with programme staff and partner organizations to assist them in planning, granting, budget and financial management. You review and follow partners’ financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and compliance to agreed Light for the World’s procedures and policies as well as donors’ requirements. You adhere to international standards and aim to build the financial and budget management capacity of partner organization through training and support. As Grant Officer, you are responsible to ensure all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the projects understand and uphold both Light for the World ‘s and institutional donors' financial policies and procedures and proactively manage contracts and risks within respective projects and programmes. You will be responsible for managing grants from the Austrian Development Agency and funding from Austria Ministry of Social Affairs. You might be asked to support in other grants as well.

Key roles

Ensuring compliance with donors’, Light for the World’s and local government procedures in financial planning, implementation, and reporting of grants by engaging relevant stakeholders including Light for the World staff and implementing partners. This includes timely delivery of quality reports and results in the context of internal needs as well as donor and government requirements. 

  • Capacity building of partners and staff members on key guidelines and procedures to create a common understanding on all the requirements with respect to implemented grants by relevant stakeholders. This may require orientation and coaching in the field and organizing in house orientation sessions.
  • Setup systems or amend existing ones in a participatory manner to respond to the changing needs of the organization.
  • Collaboration with the international team to ensure internal process and external reporting compliance in addition of being a communication channel for grant management purposes

Job Requirements

Person specification

  • BA degree in Accounting & Finance from a recognized institution and minimum 8 years of relevant experience in an INGO setup is required. Candidates with MBA with relevant experiences will be desirable.
  • Relevant experience in managing grants/contracts and financial management of institutional funding (e.g., Austrian Development Agency and Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs)
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English and Amharic is required.
  • Strong organizational, time management and analytical skills, able to set up and roll out systems that support the overall operation of the organization.
  • Proficient in using software applications and tools such as MS Office, QuickBooks, Grant management data base and web conferencing application.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities, meet demanding deadlines and work under pressure
  • High sense of responsibility, hands-on mentality as well as structured and independent working style is required. Willingness to Travel to project areas and take additional responsibilities;
  • Assist in reviewing sub grantee budget and, prepare contracts/agreements and follow up on compliance
  • Manage correspondences and matters in regard to sub-grant management in consultation with the Grant/finance/program Management team;
  • Handles the day-to-day business and grant management (non-programmatic) aspects of grants.
  • Documents financial management and budget procedures, regularly review and update Grant Management Standard Operating Procedures and relevant documents governing awards as needed.
