Employment Type: Definite period 

Job Purpose; 

  • To act as organization's point of contact with the community it serves
  • To initiate and promote community wellness
  • Mobilizing the community to participate on WaSH, health & nutrition, self-reliance and agriculture activities; and ensure all behavior change communication & community mobilization activities to be a gender focus

Main Duties & Responsibilities; 

Nutrition Activities

  • Support and supervise Community Outreach Agents (COAs) and their supervisors at their respective site level regularly.
  • Facilitate community outreach screening, trace absentees and defaulters through home visit and convey health and nutrition messages to the refugees in Pugnido one camp.
  • Work closely with COAs and verifying and updating catchment areas and household that each incentive workers are allocated and assure they are covering HHs as per the standard set by UNHCR.
  • Work closely with key refugee community leaders such as refugee central committee, religious leaders, and Elderly and women groups and liaise with them in terms of community mobilization and programmatic issues.
  • Closely work with nutrition team at each nutrition sites to assure the referral linkages between the CMAM components maintained.
  • Actively participate and lead the routine screening campaigns, nutrition assessments, and other joint work with partners.
  • Supervise the COA team daily work, organize weekly meeting with the team, prepare and follow daily attendance sheet for the COAS and submit to the outreach team leader.
  • Following anthropometric measurement data sequence for data quality.
  • Provide mass health education at nutrition center and awareness raising by home to home visits through COAs on nutrition and health sensitive topics.
  • Establishing MTMSG whenever required and facilitate discussion every 15 days.
  • Conduct food preparation demonstration at community level among the MTMSG
  • Distribute IEC and other necessary material for MTMSG.
  • Ensure community mobilization for early case detection, referral, follow up and promotion of key health seeking behaviors including IYCF
  • Make special consideration to ensure all target groups are able to receive appropriate health and nutrition services like children under five, pregnant and lactating women.
  • Collect, verify and submit final version of the report (daily/weekly/monthly) from the COAs to the outreach team leader.
  • Ensure all behavior change communication & community mobilization activities to be a gender focus
  • Ensure the proper targeting of male, female children , PLW & the most vulnerable and enhancing participation of women
  • Include Core gender equality messages and integrate with health and hygiene education, during home visits, community mobilization and community activities.
  • Include Gender dimension; promote husband and male engagement in Health and hygiene education awareness creation, on dietary issues, child feeding and caring practice and household gender roles.
  • Continues familiarization to all project beneficiaries through focus group discussions and different community gatherings about:-        
  • In place CRM at operation sites (such as health facilities and outreach sites), where any members of the community can anonymously channel comments or complaints they may have regarding the services provided and behaviors of Concern staff.
  • Monitor and ensure  beneficiaries have awareness and opportunity to voice any problems or misunderstanding.
  • Encouraged to share feedback and complaints to Concern and community leaders to ensure accountability and provision of responses to the feedback and complaints.
  • Report any serious issues/sensitive complaints to Concern senior management for further investigation and appropriate response.
  • Provide awareness creation for beneficiaries and other community members about the CRM system including channels for reporting.
  • Organize community representatives consisting of both sexes nominated by beneficiaries.
  • Conduct beneficiary and community leader training at their locality as required
  • Liaises and represent Concern at CMAM site catchment with all project stakeholders at grass root level.
  • Ensure the involvement of women in all area of program process and decision making activities
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.

  • actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E);
  • work with relevant colleagues to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed;
  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff Behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities.

Emergency Response;

  • Concern is committed to responding to emergencies efficiently and effectively in order to help affected people meet their basic needs, alleviate suffering and maintain their dignity. To this end, when emergencies strike and the Ethiopia Program is to respond, all staff are required to actively participate in the response, regardless of location and contribute to the efforts aimed at achieving the humanitarian objective of the organization.

Job Requirements

Person Specification; 

  • Diploma in Public Health or Nursing or level III-IV with minimum of 2 years relevant experience
  • NGO experience in emergency Nutrition project is an advantage
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Speaker of local language(Agnuak and Nuer languages preferred

Competencies;

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff and working with community members
  • Able to recognize possible signs of child and adult abuse, harm and neglect
