SBCC Officer/Awash 7 Killo

Amref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa envision to bringing lasting health change for Africain more than 30 countries across the continent. With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations. 

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit SBCC Officer based in Afar Region, Awash 7 Killo and will report to Regional Project Coordinator.

The SBCC Officer under the supervision of the Regional Project Coordinator will be responsible for providing management and technical assistance in day to day implementation of NTD Elimination and Control Programs. The SBCC Officer will be primarily responsible for ensuring the achievement of specific project deliverables and targets in NTD Elimination and Control Programs

The officer is expected to carryout routine activity planning and implementation of filed level activities; coordinate and monitor/supervise timely implementation of program/project activities and the budget utilization under his/her custody. He/She will be responsible for organizing and facilitating trainings, conducting regular site visits, and provide technical assistance including coaching to health care providers working in public health facilities and partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly involved in the development of concept test for the new SBCC materials development
  • Support the timely design and development of SBCC media and material in support of SBCC strategy and program work plans.
  • Provide over all assistance in the development of detail regional annual and periodic plans and budgets.
  • Assist service delivery sites in meeting quality standards by providing training, training follow-up visits, clear performance feedback and technical support as needed, particularly in the area of NTD services.
  • Develop pretesting design, organize pretesting and write pretest reports for NTD communication materials under development.
  • Follow the distribution and impact of the printed SBCC materials
  • Closely follow the youth focused behavioral change and communication program
  • Collaborate with regional team leader, technical and program team to initiate and ensure successful implementation of ongoing and new initiatives.
  • Assist the regional and woreda health and education bureau and community level partners in demand creation and referral linkage activities.
  • Monitor the activity of NTD supported sites and provide necessary guidance and technical assistance
  • Provide training for teachers and students related with NTD and communication
  • Ensure the proper implementation of project activities and monitor progress regularly with periodic supervision and review meetings in coordination with project implementing partners.
  • Conduct regular site visits, in liaison with other partners, to monitor progress and quality to ensure high standards of NTD services and effective use of all resources.
  • Closely work with the regional and woreda Health and Education bureau.
  • Identify with other technical staff and counterpart’s lessons learned and potential best practices related to NTD, participate in the documentation and dissemination of best practices.
  • Keep abreast of best practices in relevant technical areas and disseminate knowledge to project staff.
  • Carry out other Amref Health Africa assignments as may be required and as directed by the regional NTD Coordinator, technical advisors and mangers at the country office.

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in Social Science, Public Health, Education or related fields.
  • 5 years’ experience in Health communication and has practical fieldwork and experience in NGO
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, partner’s management skill
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication (both in Amharic & English languages, knowing Somali language is a plus), team and networking skills
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision and have strong interpersonal skills and skills to promote teamwork.
  • Well-developed communication skills to liaise, negotiate and advocate with key stakeholders including with other community based organizations and implementing agencies
  • Be a team player and communicator and work under minimal supervision
  • Skills and experience in computer applications and utilization is mandatory, knowing Adobe software is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently to project activity areas and woredas as per need.

Terms of employment: one year with possibility of extension
