Plan International has a liaison office to the African Union (Plan AULO) based in Addis Ababa. Plan AULO Leads Plan International’s liaison engagement with the AU and other related continental institutions. It also implements continental projects and initiatives (mainly on policy implementation and influencing) in line with its strategic focus areas.
The purpose of the internship initiative is to provide an opportunity and space for the successful candidate to acquire skills and experience that will prepare them for the job market. In order to achieve this, the Program Intern will be guided to by AULO staff through our respective projects, program cycle management and advocacy work. The Program Intern is a member of the Plan AULO Team
Key Accountabilities:
The following are tasks to be undertaken by the Program Intern
Advocacy support
- Provide logistical, administrative and technical support to Plan AULO’s engagements in various advocacy initiatives and events;
- Through the support of relevant program staff, participate at various policy advocacy events and meetings with relevant stakeholders at the Pan Africa level. These events will be decided upon as they come up;
- Participate and support back-to-office reporting on meetings of the AU and of the Child Focused Agencies involving relevant program staff;
- Support advocacy information sharing between AULO, Regional Offices and Country Offices;
- Support learning & communication activities at Plan AULO
- Assist in raising the profile of the different advocacy and influence activities undertaken by Plan AULO
- Update AULO’s calendar of events regularly and disseminate as required;
- Assist the office with monitoring, evaluation, research and learning processes.
Project Management & Administrative support
- Provide logistical, planning and administrative support to project meetings & events; and support follow-up actions.
General support
- Support AULO staff meetings, program meetings & strategy development processes and annual implementation planning and review processes (logistical and admin support, take minutes, compiling reports, following up on action points etc);
Time Frame (Duration); From six months to one-year internship contract
Reports to (position): Project Coordinator – Enhancing the Voices of Civil Society to End Child Marriage in East and Southern Africa.
Department & Location: Plan International African Union Liaison Office (Plan AULO) – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Level of Contact with Children: Low frequency of interaction with children.
Allowance: Monthly Internship allowance will be provided.

Person Specification
Essential
- A minimum of first degree in Law or Social Sciences from a University.
Desirable
- An understanding and commitment to child rights
- Fluency in English and ability to speak and communicate in French language is an asset
- Good understanding of Child Rights and NGO Liaison requirements with the AU/UN
- Excellent planning & organizational skills, team-working ability, including the capacity to work effectively with people from many different backgrounds
- Computer literacy skills
