Job Description

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a publicly-funded, non-for profit German political foundation registered in Ethiopia as a “foreign organization” in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No 1113/2019. With offices in more than 100 countries, KAS promotes democracy, the Rule of Law, Social Market Economy and human rights and fosters political exchanges. For its new Country Office in Ethiopia, KAS is looking for a Project Assistant under the current funding period by the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) until 31 December 2022. This position is a definite work contract of 16 months, ideally starting on 01 September 2021.

The Project Assistant is assisting the Project Managers in planning, implementing and evaluating the activities of the KAS Country Office Ethiopia in Ethiopia and in relation with the African Union. The position also includes assuring the external visibility of the project activities.

Job description:

The Project Assistant works under the supervision of the Country Representative and of the Project Managers for KAS’ activities in Ethiopia and in relation with the African Union.

 Project management:

  • Support Project Managers Ethiopia/AU in planning, implementation and evaluation of project activities
  • Assure visibility of project activities
  • Manage Social Media accounts and homepage of KAS Country Office Ethiopia
  • Manage media requests
  • Assist Project Managers with research
  • Assist Project Managers in drafting activity documents
  • Assist with the organization of workshops, conferences, panel discussions, etc.
  • Ensure availability of workshop materials, including all necessary documentation such as attendance lists, prepare participants/travel lists
  • Draft documents of external visibility such as invitations, etc.
  • Upload programs/agenda, attendance lists, etc. in the KAS PASTIS system.

Financial administration

  • Support the Project Accountant in regards to procurement processes, and checking of expense reports and claim forms
  • Support the scanning of financial documents

Job Requirements

Qualifications, experiences and competencies:

Candidates should have the following educational background, work experience and skills.

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Social Science, Communications or another relevant field

Work experience:

  • At least five (3) years of relevant professional work experience in office and project management (work experience in the field of development and communication is an advantage; familiarity with the politics of Ethiopia and the African Union)

Competencies:

  • Interest in the work in the field of democracy, the Rule of Law, Social Market Economy and human rights in Ethiopia and in relation to the African Union
  • Ability to work in an international environment
  • Well-developed team player skills
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and to work under the pressure of rigid deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • Excellent ability in planning and keeping schedules
  • Ability to communicate detailed information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing;
  • Strong research skills
  • Able to work independently and highly meticulous
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong Social Media skills and visibility (experience in taking pictures, producing audio and video is an advantage
  • Willingness and openness to be trained and use the in-house accountancy and document management system of Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft office, in particular Excel;
  • Ability to participate as a contributing member of an international and customer-oriented team;

Languages:

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English (C1) are mandatory for this role
  • Fluency in Amharic
  • Fluency in French and other local languages of Ethiopia are an advantage
