Job Description

Duties and responsibilities: Under direct supervision of and being accountable to EWNRA southwest Ethiopia Coordination Office Coordinator, and in close coordination with other technical staff in the field office and supporting technical staff from EWNRA head office, the Site Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the development, refining and implementation of the forest governance and livelihood improvement approach for linking the needs and the opportunities for sustainable forest management and NTFP collection/production, processing and marketing.
  2. Further, the site coordinator should recognize the policy, socio-economic and cultural opportunities/potentials or constraints, organize them, learn the situation on the ground and strategize in collaboration with other staff for the implementation of sustainable timber harvesting
  3. Facilitate and lead the identification of potential Kebeles eligible for project activities within the Project intervention Woredas;
  4. Lead and facilitate local government and community consultation towards the establishment of local level platforms for the design and implementations of timber harvest piloting in the project intervention woredas;
  5. Facilitate the establishment of permanent plots for piloting sustainable timber harvesting, forest resources inventory and monitoring;
  6. Facilitate cooperation with local consultants, research institutions and relevant Universities in the preparation of field manual/guidelines related with sustainable timber harvesting including non-timber forest products (NTFP) to be used by local government institutions and community level PFM institutions
  7. Conduct capacity building trainings and involve in capacity building activities and/or trainings, among others, on sustainable timber harvesting including non-timber forest products (NTFP), community entrepreneurship and marketing cooperatives, ensuring equity and equal participation among community members, benefit sharing and on conflict resolution aspects, etc;
  8. Play a leading role in the facilitation of the community and local government joint planning and monitoring processes, the identification of needs and preferences of communities and local government institutions to engage in valuable analysis for the practical implementation of sustainable timber harvesting including non-timber forest products (NTFP)
  9. Prepare project monthly, quarterly and annual progress descriptive and quality reports and submit on time to the southwest coordination (Metu) office and information sharing with advisors from FoW.
  10. Perform other organizational and project related tasks that may be required by southwest coordination office and/or EWNRA head Office.

Job Requirement

Qualifications and Experience: the potential candidate for the post should have

  • Bachelor degree from a recognized University/College in Forestry and related fields.
  • Besides, s/he should have at least five years and above demonstrable work experience in areas of sustainable forest management in particular experiences related with Participatory Forest Management (PFM), local (community) institution development, community consultation etc.
  • Further with experience on community relations and understanding as well as have a practical background on participatory approach.

Duty Station: In Metu Township at EWNRA Southwest Coordination Office with extensive travel to the project intervention woredas namely Selle Nono and Masha Woredas

Additional Requirements for the Position:

  • Competency in computer applications of MS Offices packages is required
  • Cooperative, team player, gender sensitive and excellent in interpersonal relationships
  • Have a strong commitment and openness to learn and share
