Finance Assistant

Amref Health Africa is an African-led international health development organization headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa to bring critical health services to remote communities, Amref Health Africa envision to bringing lasting health change for Africa in more than 30 countries across the continent. With a focus on women and children, the organization strives to overcome the most critical health challenges facing the continent: maternal and child health, HIV & TB, malaria, water and sanitation and health systems strengthening. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations.

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Finance Assistant based in Afar, Semera field office and will report to Admin and Finance Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting and assisting project managers and budget holders with project financial management including budget development, provision & interpretation of monthly budget comparison report, implementation and monitoring, alerting them on abnormal spending trends,
  • Provide operational support to project managers on expenditure management.
  • Code payment vouchers and files for data processing; ensure record transactions in accordance to the coding structure of Amref Health Africa.
  • Review and Ensure that all financial transactions are in line with the financial policy and procedures of Amref Health Africa and relevant laws of Ethiopia
  • Arrange, organize and keep safely accounting documents;
  • Ensure timely submission of all financial documents (on hard copy and soft copy) to CO and communicate to program staff any pending document in the country office.
  • Summarized issues identify by country office finance on monthly base and provide training to avoid duplication of the same issue on next period.
  • Ensure that appropriate taxes are collected and paid to the concerned government bodies on due date
  • Facilitate in the projection and preparation of quarterly request for cash transfer.
  • Ensure that there are adequate controls over cash and bank at field office level,
  • Undertake regular field visit and forward issues during the visit.
  • Review and process financial requests of program and support staff according to the approved quarterly plan
  • Reconcile staff accounts under the field office
  • Ensure settlement of monthly advance in the field office, summarized & submit unsettle advance with justification to head office finance on month basis;
  • Give an overview on finance related to Amref Health Africa context.

Additional Admin Assignment

  • Handling petty cash
  • Handling and preparing check payment
  • Preparing cash receipt voucher

Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Terms of employment: one year with possible extension  

Duty Station: Afar Regional state, Semera.

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in Accounting and Management
  • Minimum experience of 3 years related experience in both areas
  • Good believe in team spirit and Organizational rule and regulation
  • Experience in office support knowledge of modern office system
  • NGO experience is an advantage
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Communication & writing skills in both Amharic & English
  • Excellent computer skills: Ms Windows, Ms Word and Excel
  • In addition the ideal candidate must have strong analytical, problem solving and networking skills
  • Be a team player and communicator and work under minimal supervision
