Conservation and Sustainable Management of Biodiversity and Forests

The Project “Protection and sustainable use of natural resources in Ethiopia” aims to strengthen the capacities of institutions responsible for protected areas and forests for a climate-resilient management of selected landscapes in accordance with the interests of the local population. The upcoming new module of the project introduces innovative implementation approaches that promote a wider collaboration among local stakeholders, partners, communities, as well as the engagement of private actors in the restoration of degraded landscapes; the use of digital solutions for improving partners’ capacities and efficiency; and the expansion of the timber value chain.

The project implements activities at federal level, at the regional level in SNNPR and Amhara, as well as in remote areas in the field.

The Head of Administration and Finance is responsible for the overall management the administration and financial issues and services of the project. He/she has a managerial responsibility for the administration team and provides support to the field officers in administration and finances.

Contract duration:                          July 31, 2024

Responsibilities:

The Head of Administration and Finance:

  • Supports the project manager in the preparation of the project budget, financial planning and expenditure reports, using the latest GIZ financial, planning and reporting tools
  • Applies and ensures the application of GIZ regulations in administrative processes
  • Supervises the flow of the project budget, in coordination with the project manager
  • Supervises and manages the daily financial and administrative operations, including the checking of accounting books and the accuracy and quality control of contracts managed by the project.
  • Supervises the finance and administration team of the project
  • Manages the cash flow and bank accounts
  • Prepares audits and revisions at the financial level
  • Ensures monthly journal is correctly posted, accounted and charged 
  • Assumes full responsibility for the correct filing system
  • Participates in meetings of GIZ finance teams
  • Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, accounting, economics or similar area
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position with management responsibility
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience with an international NGO, international organization or enterprise
  • Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Ability to motivate and support staff
  • High level of self-organization and ability to work independently
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Amharic
  • Willingness to continuously update know-how and skills in a changing environment
