Background:

The USAID Office of Transition Initiatives’ (USAID/OTI) Ethiopia Program delivers fast and adaptable support that helps the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) and civil society contribute to an enabling environment for a peaceful and inclusive reform process that provides a pathway to a more democratic Ethiopia. Dexis Consulting Group (Dexis) is USAID/OTI’s implementing partner in providing this assistance.

The OTI Ethiopia Program is currently working with the Addis Abeba Professional Photographers Association (AAPPA), USAID/OTI will train a cadre of professional photographers on conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding and provide in-kind support to organize five pop-up photography exhibits across Addis Ababa. The trained photographers will engage passersby on the street, mostly targeting youth people, to take part in facilitated dialogue and storytelling that aims to find common social threads within the photography narratives. The five pop-up exhibitions will be followed by a panel discussion for reflection on lessons learned and a final exhibit where members of the creative industry and practitioners will be in attendance. 

SOW Objective:

• The trainer will oversee the design and delivery of conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding training delivered to two project staff and ten AAPPA members. The objective of the training is twofold.
• The first objective of the training is to develop the capacity of the association’s founding members and project management team. This will enable them to use photography as a peacebuilding tool in this activity as well as potential future activities.
• The second is to build the awareness of the grantee on the risks specific to conflict sensitivity in using photographs as peacebuilding tools. 

Scope of Work:

• The trainers will develop the training material, customize, and deliver the content to participants over two days. The training will cover the following topics essential to the successful implementation of the project:
• Working for peace: Peacebuilding essentials
• Photography as a peacebuilding tool, engaging the creative industry in peacebuilding.
• Understanding conflict
• Useful tools for conflict analysis
• Understanding the Conflict-Sensitive Approach
• Integrating conflict sensitive approaches to Peacebuilding 

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver a two-day conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding training to twelve members and project staff of the AAPPA
• Support the development of a selection criteria for the solicitation and selection of photographs to take part in the exhibitions. 

Deliverables:

• Submit a detailed workplan including and training program.
• Participate in kickoff meeting with ESP. 
• Produce all relevant training materials
• Submit all content to ESP a minimum of three days in advance 
• Deliver training to 12 participants from the AAPPA over two days. 
• Write a final training report on the training delivery, lessons learnt and recommendations for the best way forward. This includes guiding the team to identify a plausible theme for the photo exhibit, provide guidance to develop a selection criterion with a strong conflict sensitivity requirements for selected photographs.

Job Requirements

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Background in peace and conflict studies or related field
• Relevant experience in training, capacity building and research in the field
• History of applying creative approaches and/or working with the creative sector in peacebuilding is a plus
• Clear methodology (including resources) to implement the scope components to a professional standard
