The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.

The employee will work within the TBGEN Africa research team at the Armauer Hansen Research Institute. This project is funded by the Welcome Trust through the African Academy of Sciences and coordinates collaborative research on susceptibility to tuberculosis in three countries in North-Eastern Africa and Cameroun. The employee will participate in the establishment and strengthening of a regional Bioinformatics Research and Training Centre at AHRI that will build genomics capacity in all partner countries

Roles and Responsibilities

• Assist Data analysis pipeline design
• Assist maintenance of Bioinormatics and NGS lab server maintenance  
• Assist data Entry and design quality data entry protocol
• Closely interacts with the field and lab coordinators for quality data entry    
• Ensures proper documentation of files (consent forms, CRFs, source documents, essential documents) safe and secure
• Keeps confidentiality of data and documents
• Archiving data
• Closely work with Bioinformatics data manager

Job Requirements

• MSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution; OR
• BSc degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution with two years of working experience

Essential Skills and Experiences Required

• Knowledge and/or experience of C++ and SQL is required   
• Knowledge and /or experience of Linux operative system is an advantage.        
• Knowledge of python and/or R programming is an added advantage        
• Knowledge in developing interactive, database-driven web tools      
• Experience in Big Data analysis is an advantage
• Enthusiastic to learn Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
