Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

HFE which was established in 1974 G.C by Drs. Catherine and Reginald Hamlin has been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 60 years. Including our main Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa we have 5 regional hospitals, rehabilitation and reintegration center and The Hamlin College of Midwives. We deploy midwives into rural health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these facilities.

The Hamlin College of Midwives is delighted to invite applications for MIDWIFE MENTOR Position.Duties and Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities of MIDWIFE MENTOR  includes the following, but are not limited to:

• Supervising groups of Midwife students on clinical placement (including night duty)
• Supervising and coaching recent Hamlin Midwife graduates working in rural areas outside
• Promoting community involvement of midwives’ activities
• Carrying out in –service trainings for Hamlin Midwives
• Facilitating logistic support for Hamlin Midwives
• Collaborate with Hamlin outreach centers
• Collect reports and send it to the respective office
• Monitor quality standards through conducting supervision of clinical services and sites (e.g. Clinical practice, client satisfaction, client numbers, provider-client interaction, management of stock, record-keeping, adequate infrastructure, functioning equipment)
• Writing reports to the Hamlin College, the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and relevant offices about the work of the Hamlin Midwives
• Overseeing the supply of medical equipment and drugs for the Hamlin Midwives
• Being part of an ongoing process of good understanding with the relevant Health authority
• Serve as a liaison person
• Conduct ultrasound examination for pregnant mothers
• Carry out additional tasks as required

Job Requirements

Education:                   

• BSc or MSc Degree in Midwifery, Reproductive Health or other related fields

Experience:             

• 5 yrs. and above in clinical experience (recent clinical experience at least in Health Center level is preferable)

Essential Requirements:

• Willingness to work in remote settings and to contribute to a growing project
• Ability to travel to the districts and health centers occasionally
• Speaking the local language
• No commitment with other organization

Skills and Abilities

• Fluent in written and spoken English
• High level computer skills
• Training on mentorship is an additional asset
• Additional trainings on Family planning, BEmONC and helping mother survive and helping baby breath are additional assets.
• Ability to work under pressure, long work hours and high workload 
• Training on limited pelvic ultrasound examination will be an asset
