 Position Overview 

Splash’s WASH Promotion team is responsible for executing site engagement and behavior change activities at school sites based on established program standards. As critical members of this team, WASH Promotion Officers are key liaisons between school partners and Splash – they are a school’s first point of contact at Splash and manage school relationships throughout the entire lifecycle of Splash’s support. Key responsibilities include working with schools to clearly communicate Splash’s model, identifying and documenting school contributions, conducting behavior change activities for school staff and students, and helping schools ensure that WASH interventions last long-term. WASH Promotion Officers are also responsible for closely tracking and adhering to project workplans and ensuring proper sequencing of all school-based activities, as well as documenting and recording details about Splash work at each site. 

The WASH Promotion Officer is responsible for directly managing site engagement and behavior change activities for a small subset of schools. She or he will work regularly with the Behavior Change team as well as other team members in Ethiopia and Seattle.  

Responsibilities 

  • Serve as relationship owner for a subset of Splash schools, maintaining overall responsibility for all site engagement and behavior change touchpoints, including proper sequencing and timing of each activity according to Splash’s program model 
  • Facilitate all site engagement activities, including clear communication of Splash’s model and school responsibilities; identification, documentation, and tracking of school contributions; preparing sites for long-term ownership of Splash’s WASH intervention; and providing strategic post-implementation support to schools 
  • Train and follow up with teachers to conduct hygiene club trainings, orient other teachers, and develop systems to maintain infrastructure and improve handwashing behavior of children 
  • Train and follow up with teachers to conduct menstrual health (MH) programming, conduct gender club trainings, develop a peer mentoring program, conduct MH boys program, and MH parent program at each school 
  • Train and follow up with maintenance staff to conduct a janitor training, as well as support infrastructure team members in conducting the operation and maintenance training 
  • Build positive relationships with teachers, management, janitors and children at school sites 
  • Ensure that all implementation data for partner schools is accurate and up to date in Splash’s Salesforce database (including direct data entry related to program activities) 
  • Actively participate in Splash team meetings 
  • Meet with the Behavior Change team as needed to promote team alignment and facilitate planning 
  • Suggest program improvements or new ideas where applicable 
  • Represent Splash in a professional and positive way, while communicating with partners and coworkers with a high level of respect 
  • Serve as an internal expert and champion for Splash’s global program standards, working closely with Splash technical specialist and partners

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • BA or BSc in Environmental Health, Health officer of public health and other related field 
  • At least 2 years of directly relevant work experience 
  • Proven history of managing accounts and relationships successfully 
  • Professional level of written and verbal fluency in Amharic and English 
  • Detail oriented  
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with internet research, data entry, Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with a database, such as Salesforce, preferred. 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with Ethiopian and international staff
