Job Description
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
SOS children`s village Gode and SOS Children’s Village Addis Ababa programs were established in 2005 and 1981 respectively. Since their establishments, the programs have been supporting thousands of vulnerable children and their families with the basic essential needs like education, food, health, etc., required for their wellbeing and capacity development interventions for the caregivers and other stakeholders. As a result, many vulnerable children have been able to live in a safe and protected living environment. Currently, the two programs run alternative child care program (AC) that support the children and young people who have lost parental care and family and community development (FCD) program for the children and young people who are at risk of losing their parental care. In addition to the AC and FCD programs, SOS children`s village Gode program runs SOS medical center, Herman Geiminer school and emergency projects while Addis program runs SOS VTC, and SOS Day Care. These projects have been providing the program participants and the surrounding communities with the different services like primary and secondary education and training, curative and preventive health services as well as day care services free of payment or with little payment.
Objective
The general objective of this need assessment is to provide specific information on the type and extent of vulnerability of children who have lost parental care and those at significant risk of losing it. Also it aims to create deep understanding of the magnitude and root causes of child vulnerability, abandonment and neglect.
