Job Description

SNV, Netherlands Development Organization, is operating in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Currently, SNV Ethiopia is working in eight regional states and the two city administrations of Ethiopia, providing technical assistance and program implementation in Agriculture, WASH, and Energy Sectors. SNV is an open and learning organization that focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopian through a market based approach inclusive of women and youth. In its new Strategic Plan period (2019 – 2022), SNV will more explicitly aim for systems change including strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets that help many more to escape poverty beyond our projects. Realizing Aspiration of youth in Ethiopia through Employment (RAYEE) is a five-year (Nov 2019 to October 2024 inclusive) youth employment promoting project funded by Mastercard Foundation (MCF) and being implemented by SNV-Ethiopia. The overall objective of the project is to create dignified and fulfilling employment for improved livelihoods of 240,000 youth (of which 70% are women) living in urban, peri-urban, and rural targeted areas of Ethiopia.  

Consultancy Objective

The overall objective of the assignment is to review and identify agribusinesses as well as practices of deciding on them along the functions of the value chains with potentials of creating more employment for young women and men.

Job Requirements

The lead consultant of the firm and the team it deploys for this assignment should possess the following competency and academic qualifications.

  • Master's degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Development Economic and in related agriculture fields
  • The lead consultant as well as the consulting team members shall have at least 10 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in market systems and value chain analysis, in micro and small enterprise development, youth employment
  • The consulting firm is expected to deploy at least two groups at a time. Each group shall have two specialists to support each other
  • An in-depth knowledge and good understanding of job creation activities for young men and women employment
  • Experience in gender analysis
  • Adequate knowledge of micro and small enterprise development, agribusiness and market systems development and value chain development approaches inclusive of unemployed young men and women
  • Fluency in English and Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages such as Afan Oromo, Wolaitigna, Gamo and Sidamigna is a plus

2% withholding tax will be deducted from the consultant fees at the source and will be paid by SNV – Ethiopia, assuming a TIN number and license can be provided.
