Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position. 

Purpose of the Job:

To lead the design and development of wide-ranging human rights education curricula, teaching materials and coordinate the mainstreaming of human rights education. 

 Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Devise strategic human rights education curricula and content development initiatives that can contribute for long-term impact on human rights knowledge and skills of targeted communities.
  • Lead the construction or revision of syllabuses for new or existing training modules.
  • Coordinate and closely work with various subject matter experts in generating ideas and contents in designing human rights education programs.
  • Analyses all the different plans of EHRC to evaluate how human rights education curricula and content matters included and avoid duplication of content and effort between and among departments, divisions, and regions. 
  • Follow up the works of Human Rights Officers of the Human Rights Education, curricula, and material development team. Collaborate with human rights education delivery and research and needs assessment sections to capture the learning and improve the curricula and content development project work.
  • Coordinate with relevant thematic functions to get expert advice in designing content development activity for the topics identified by the Department. 
  • Closely work with relevant thematic functions in design of content, assessment of the quality of human rights promotion materials and avoid duplication on the content and effort between and among departments. 
  • Evaluate information collected regarding functional performance, internal operation, new innovations, environmental analysis related to human rights education, etc., from various internal and external sources to revise the human rights education Content.
  • Provide advice to trainers on tools designed for the provision of trainings and the developed training materials. Prepare a discussion forum with trainers to have a shared understanding of best practices in human rights education.
  • Ensure that human rights education planning outcomes are highly effective and well aligned with the direction and set objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice and high-quality tools to EHRC members to enable a shared understanding of best practice in human rights education.
  • Support in managing close relationships with relevant national and international stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration, including other NHRIs and international and regional human rights networks.
  • Participate in relevant working groups/committees and staff meetings.
  • Ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clear to each staff member and regularly discuss performance and provide feedback and coaching to staff.
  • Submit regular reports of the Function to the Director and other relevant organs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

LOCATION: Head Office

REPORT TO: Director, Human Rights Education

DURATION: Open Contract/indefinite period

DIRECT REPORTS; Human Rights Officers, Associate Human Rights Officer

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 25,756.00- ETB 30,676.00 plus ETB 8,000.00 housing allowance and ETB 1,900.00 transport allowance depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • MA in Human Rights Law, LL.M in Human Rights, LLM in International Law, LLM in Law (Public Law relevant to Human Rights). Candidates with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) but with exceptional experience can be considered.
  • Training on educational pedagogy or curriculum development is a plus.
  • 6 years of relevant experience with MA including experience in management of resources.
  • Computer literate. 
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
