Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

 Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

 We are looking for a Lead Teacher who will be responsible for leading teachers and student learning as per the mission and core values of the school.

Your role....

While working with us as a Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for;

Learning and Teaching:

  • Monitor and evaluate pupil achievement and attainment in the school.
  • Support subject teachers in the development and implementation of curricular initiatives.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning, in line with the school policy.
  • Review, in cooperation with Academic Director and Heads of Department, long term planning to ensure coverage, progression and a range of learning experiences in primary classes.
  • Oversee all aspects of the school organization and management, including preparing agendas and chairing meetings of the foundation management, in order to ensure that school policies and practices are being delivered.
  • Co-coordinate and oversee the organization of out of school learning activities.
  • Work closely with all primary school staff to ensure continuity and progression across the age and ability range.
  • Provide professional support to staff members to meet personal and professional targets.
  • Ensure that all staff members share the aims of the school in promoting high quality of learning in the classroom.
  • Perform the duties of a school teacher

Planning and Reporting:

  • Update the Academic Director, other senior managers and Department Heads on the effectiveness of provision for pupils throughout the school to include an annual development plan.
  • Collect relevant data on student achievement and report to the academic director for further review and decisions.
  • Provide valuable input into the target setting process for raising achievement for pupils and feedback to the Academic Director.
  • Monitor progress and ensure appropriate action plans are in place where issues are identified.
  • Contribute to the Annual Report to Parents.
  • Ensure planning is effectively carried out and ensure individual needs are being met.

Leadership:

  • Support the School principal and the Academic Director in providing a clear direction for the development of the school.
  • Contribute to management decisions on all aspects of policy, development and organization by playing a significant role in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the school's development plan.
  • Establish good relationships, encourage good working practices and support and guide teachers.
  • Plan, organize and chair foundation management meetings as appropriate and keep appropriate record of minutes of the meetings.
  • Facilitate and take part in staff training and capacity building programs.
  • Encourage moral, civic and social responsibility amongst pupils

  • Bachelor's degree in Educational Planning and Management or related field of study
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience 
  • High level of English proficiency
  • Basic computer skill
  • Excellent communication skill
