We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Specialist: Power Utility Engineering

within Technology Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below. 

Detailed Description 

Reporting to the Manager – Data Center and Energy Engineering, the position holder will be responsible for below;

• Oversee Commercial designs.
• Development and management of processes related to power connections
• Management and administration of Power works database
• Development of specifications guiding design and in line with Utility company requirements
• Interface with strategy, deployment and operations personnel for continual improvement
• Liaison with relevant government energy authority and utility companies.

Job Responsibilities 

• Develop and Implement Site Energy Strategies
• Create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize unnecessary consumption. Implement energy-related cost-saving measures and achieve set targets on the same.
• Lead Engagements with Utility Company
• Regularly organize and lead meetings to address emerging issues on design and site power stability.
• Ensure timely movement of Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia schemes through various stages in Ethiopia Electric Power (EEP) Company systems or equivalent body
• Design
• Oversee design of Utility system services for new sites and optimization of existing sites from time to time
• Relationship Management 

Specialist Data Centre and Energy Engineering and Power expert, Deployment Specialists: For long term, medium term plans, day to day prioritization of power works.

O&M: monitoring of health of delivered power.

Civil works Contractors: Electrical Certificates, provision of cableways facilitate Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP)Company connection

EEP: Commissioning of power works

• Power contractor: construction supervision, carrying out acceptance of works. Ensure adherence to specifications and SLA.
• Work closely with assigned company sustainability officer for reporting
• Measurement of Carbon footprint
• Validate carbon footprint input data from Energy consumed from Utility company.
• Energy Committee
• Being part of Energy Committee and ensure that its objectives are all met

Develop, implement and continuously review energy policy and implementation programs.

Ensure compliance with statutory regulations in energy matters

Align the organizations energy practices with best practices globally.

Job Requirements

• First Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from a recognized University.
• Registration with relevant government professional body in charge engineering is desired.
• Post Graduate training in Energy or Professional certification in Energy such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) or Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) will be added advantage
• Over 3 years of work experience in energy sector involving utility service including designs and operations of which atleast 1 year must have been in a busy telecommunications environment.
• Electrical design experience in LV and MV systems is desired
• Strong management and organizational skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and consistently meets deadlines
• General understanding of the energy market
• Knowledge of relevant legislation governing energy efficiency and carbon emissions/environment
