We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Specialist: Transmission Network Engineering (IP Networks) within Technology Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below. 

Detailed Description 

Reporting to Manager Transmission Network Engineering, the position holder will be responsible for Planning, design, modeling, optimization and project management of reliable end to end (E2E) IP Transport networks in support of timely delivery of IP connectivity for internal and external clients / requirements.

Job Responsibilities 

• Modeling and planning of end to end systems/network and respective capacity planning and analysis for E2E IP(MPLS) Networks (Backhaul & Core)
• Harmonized planning of E2E IP network in relation to other transmission technologies including Microwave, Fibre / DWDM, VSAT.
• Ensure Network build with 70% occupancy and 30% growth factor.
• Review requirements for various services / customers [Mobile backhaul, Core, Enterprise customers, IT WAN, Inter Datacenter traffic etc.] and ensure harmonized planning, sufficient capacity and network stability / reliability.
• Planning for local, regional and international interconnects (voice and data / IP Transit)
• Assessment of requirements for own network build vs. leased bandwidth from third parties.
• Ensuring Due diligence in products introduction to network - Running of IP Network trials, equipment / system parameter checks and evaluation and subsequent recommendations for approval and adoption of new equipment, systems and technologies.
• IP Address planning
• Ensure monitoring of all network elements is achieved.
• Maintain an updated network information database
• Project management of IP Network projects from inception of plans to Projects handover to operations teams
• Management of IP Networks equipment suppliers – ensure that the solutions provided meet the technical and commercial requirements and are delivered within the required timelines.
• Liaising with teams responsible for equipment space and power availability for planned systems.
• Validation of accuracy of BOQs based on agreed design as an input to the procurement process
• Liaison with Implementation department during site surveys and visits to ensure timely monthly rollout in accordance to timeframes set in Roll out process.
• Facilitate network testing and acceptance / compliance checks – in coordination with operations teams.
• Periodic reporting on IP(MPLS) Networks network status / performance

Liaise with Technology Security team to ensure compliance with network infrastructure security policies

Job Requirements

• Degree or Higher National Diploma in Computer Science or Electrical and Electronics/Telecommunications  Engineering
• 5 years experience with 3 years specialized role in a busy telecommunications environment –Involved in Transmission and IP Network design, planning, installations /commissioning projects especially in IP/MPLS Networks planning and support.
• Working knowledge and experience in various transmission network technologies and integration with E2E IP Networks
• Knowledge of network scripting / programming languages e.g. Python
• In-depth understanding of IP network protocols – BGP, MPLS, OSPF, ISIS, Segment Routing, IPv6 etc. Professional level certifications required e.g. CCNP, HCNP). Expert level certifications will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of software defined networking principles and related protocols
• Computer literate – Able to create management reports and use project management tools
