Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

 Why we need you?

We are looking for an Amharic Teacher who will be responsible to deliver quality education to the students.

Your role....

While working with us as an Amharic Teacher, you will be responsible for;

  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences;
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, heads of departments, academic director, principal and other professionals in the schools on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools, as measured by standards of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her assigned subject of teaching and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Participates in training and presentations about the particular subject of his/her specialty
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Amharic language
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Teacher
  • Basic computer skill
