Overview: Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) Ethiopia is seeking applicants for an SBC advisor role for Integrated Youth Activity (IYA) project funded by USAID.

The position holder leads the development and implementation of all SBC activities, liaising activities between CCP and consortium members. He/she coordinates SBC and related activities across multiple issues including peace and security, education, health, economic development, and others. The program design includes media campaigns, youth and community engagement activities, capacity strengthening and leveraging technology to provide access to information and services for youth.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities Include:

• Provide overall leadership in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SBC design and implementation for the IYA
• Work with IYA consortium partners and stakeholders to prioritize SBC needs of the project for timely design and implementation of activities
• Play a key coordinating role with relevant teams within the IYA consortium and CCP to ensure activities are aligned and harmonized in development and execution,
• Lead the development of SBC strategies, approaches and tools in consultation with relevant teams within the IYA consortium and CCP
• Develop SBC related budget for approval by the project management team, and monitor activities against approved budget
• Work with the IYA and CCP MEL teams to ensure monitoring and evaluation systems consider SBC processes and outcomes, maintaining systematic data collection and recordkeeping to inform strategy and subsequent planning
• Provide support to government counterparts, local and international partners, youth coalitions and consortium members to integrate SBC interventions within their activities
• Work with CCP’s media team to ensure that media outputs address relevant youth issues and are produced and disseminated in a timely manner
• Work with relevant consortium teams and other CCP teams to lead the development, testing and deployment of virtual platforms, mobile apps and other technology solutions under the IYA
• Lead the development and execution of capacity strengthening and youth development programs under the IYA
• Ensure integration of gender transformative and social inclusion approaches across the design and implementation of all SBC initiatives
• Establish and maintain smooth working relationships and facilitate collaboration with USG and other relevant partners
• Develop periodic work plans and progress reports and submit to supervisors on regular basis and as required by supervisor
• Provide direct assistance in developing Scope of Works and Terms of References for consultants and Short-Term Technical Assistances that may be required by the project
• Represent CCP and the consortium in different meetings, workshops and events as required
• Undertake other duties as may be assigned by supervisors

Location of position:  Addis Ababa with frequent field trip to project sites

Required no. :1 (one)

Duration of Employment: 1 year with possible extension            

Job Requirements

Desired Qualification and Attributes

• Masters degree in communications journalism, economics, social sciences, public health and other relevant field with 7+ years relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience leading and managing SBC, or media and communication teams
• Working knowledge of multiple and multi-channel approaches of social and behavioral communication
• Proficiency in English and Amharic, knowledge of other Ethiopian languages is a plus
• Creative and strong written and oral communication
