Job Description

Overview: Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) Ethiopia is seeking applicants for a Transmedia Campaign Lead for an Integrated Youth Activity (IYA) project funded by USAID.

 The position holder leads and coordinates the design and implementation of multi channeled communication approaches for SBC under the Integrated Youth Activity (IYA). He/she leads consultative processes to develop contextualized media campaigns intended for different audiences, employing radio, video, print, and social media as appropriate.

  Specific Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee the design, development and dissemination of all IYA transmedia activities including radio, video, print and social media content
  • Ensure timely production of all media outputs and communication materials by working with all relevant teams within the IYA
  • Ensure that the IYA interventions and communication materials use relevant behavior change theories, models and approaches as agreed upon with the project team.
  • Identify opportunities for creative designs to engage youth and other relevant communities through mass and mid media, as well as social media platforms.
  • Lead the content development of the media interventions of different projects, both on new and traditional media.
  • Oversee the development of mass and mid communication materials intended for different audiences.
  • Oversee the quality of all communication materials to ensure that standards are met.
  • Ensure that content of all IYA communication materials is accurate, appropriate and up to date.
  • Ensure SBC media outputs, materials and other tools are well synced with each other and other project approaches and are synergetic.
  • Lead the development of all IYA related media plans and design an appropriate media monitoring strategy to ensure that all media outputs are placed according to an approved media plan.
  • Supervise media staff and provide technical assistance to other project staff, contracted individuals and firms on the development of different communication materials.
  • Write and compile progress reports regularly based on different project needs and as requested by supervisor.

Location of position: Addis Ababa with frequent field trip to project sites

Duration of Employment:1 year with possible extension          

Job Requirements

Desired Qualification and Attributes

  • Masters degree in communications, journalism, public relations and 5+ years relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience leading and managing media and communication teams
  • Working knowledge of multiple and multi-channel approaches of social and behavioral communication
  • Proficiency in English and Amharic, knowledge of other Ethiopian languages is a plus
  • Creative and strong written and oral communication
  • Ability to travel to regions as needed
