Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a competent Brand and Communication Officer who will be responsible for promoting SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia’s brand through liaising between the Medias and the public at large.

Your role....

As a Brand and Communication, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Designing short and long-term strategies in developing the knowledge of co-workers about the brand and communication across program location.
  • Capacitating and supporting new co-workers to develop the understand the organizations brand
  • Developing and disseminating public relations materials that increase SOS children’s Villages visibility
  • Identifying target audiences and create strategies to effectively engage them
  • Capturing and editing pictures during different events
  • Assisting in responding to content (human touch stories, interviews, pictures, Videos) requests of donors
  • Ensuring that events are properly planned coordinated and documented.
  • Identifying key media and key journalists and foster the relationship with them to proactively position the organization`s topics and massages in the local/ national news agenda.
  • Facilitating different ceremonies/events in the program location and designing banners for certain occasion within the program location and for family and community development project sites.
  • Working with Management Team to identify internal and external communications opportunities and risks, and define and execute appropriate strategies
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of Communications and Brand efforts and take actions as needed
  • Ensuring quality of program location communications materials,
  • Coordinating and supervises the organizing and strengthening of the documentation task

The must haves:

  • BA Degree in Public Relation, Journalism and Communication, Marketing or any other related field of study
  • Training on Graphics and Publications
  • Minimum of four years relevant experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in English language
  • Aware of government regulation on communication
  • Team player
  • Good analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skill
  • Proficiency in basic computer software’s.
  • Basic understanding of marketing
  • Practical knowledge and skills in communications products development, story writing and the design 

The Pluses:

  • NGO experience is advantageous
