Currently, we are seeking to hire a qualitative Researcher. Join our team of energetic professionals that is committed to bringing change by providing adequate research findings and advisory services for policymakers and various end users. 

Scope/Job purpose:

The qualitative research team encompasses multiples of discipline such as in-depth investigation of experiences, description of phenomena, and analysis of non-numerical data in an attempt to generate illuminating study result. Led by the Research Analytics and Survey Director, the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation team undertakes field data collection, data quality assurance, qualitative analysis and rigorous report writing. The research team is structured around an overarching principle of producing evidence based and high standard qualitative research. The qualitative study is mainly operated in Ethiopia with frequent travel to field. 

General Duties and Responsibilities

Under the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team, the qualitative researcher will assist in rigorous research activities conducted by the Frontieri on target group or communities. The qualitative researcher will be technically and operationally supervised by the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader in Addis Ababa. The qualitative researcher will work with the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team in Frontieri on activities to ensure quality implementation and documentation of research activities. 

 Major/key Responsibilities:

  •  The qualitative researcher will report to the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader.
  • Work with the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader and the team to ensure accurate collection of data, coding and analysis, and report writing.
  • Communicate all challenges with collection of data and research activities to the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader.
  • Coordinate all research activities in the field in coordination with the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader and the team.
  • Work on documentation.
  • Assist research team during data collectors’ training and data collection.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team.

 Technical and Data Management

  •  Ensure accurate and timely copying and collating of all research tools, including consent forms.
  • Assist with organization and completion of data collection and research documentation, including secure transportation, filing and storage of all data.
  • Review carefully all research planning and design documents to gain a working knowledge of all research plans and activities.
  • Enter data for the coding and analysis using relevant software with the guidance of the Qualitative Study and Survey Operation Team Leader.
  • Provide data and summaries of data as needed.
  • Complete all other tasks assigned by Survey Director.

 Administrative and Logistical Tasks 

  • Assist with completion of all logistical tasks related to organizing the research activities and capacity building activities including:
  • Prepare meetings/training materials as needed.
  • Communicating with supervisor according to schedule established and as needed.
  • Ensure supply and logistical needs of project and ensure adherence to all relevant Frontieri regulation and finance policies.
  • Assist the supervisor to complete financial documentation and submit to finance in a timely manner.
  • Accurately complete requested reports, communicate information and dissemination about activities.
  • Arrange for the translation, audio transcription, and interpretation of all research related tools.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • BA or MA degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Social Sciences, and related Field of studies.
  • Experience in conducting survey, In-depth Interview, focus group discussions and interviews with various community sects/groups and officials. 
  • Computer skills- Words, Excel and other relevant software for qualitative analysis
  • Experience with research- related activities preferred 
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English and Amharic is mandatory. Extra language proficiency in one or either of Afan Oromo, Af-Somali, Tigrigna, Afaraf (Qafaraf), and other languages spoken in Ethiopia is encouraged.
