MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

Ethiopia is the leading growth driver for East Africa and has delivered an average annual growth of approximately 66% over the last 5 years. It is one of the global Beauty & Personal Care cells with Lifebuoy being the flagship brand for the market. Due to the forex-constrained nature of the market, there is a significant level of investment that is currently going on to support localization and reduce forex dependency and volatility. Such rapid and exponential growth calls for deliberate focus on resourcing to support the growth agenda and enhancing the control environment to protect and liberate value for Unilever Ethiopia.

Reporting to the East Africa Finance Director, the role will be responsible for driving end to end growth and delivery of business results in line with the company strategy; optimal allocation of resources and maintaining the overall financial health of the organization to ensure compliance to all the global and statutory requirements as well as local laws and regulations. It will also be responsible for proactive management and mitigation of risks to reduce exposure for the entity.

JOB SUMMARY

1. Performance Management

  • Spearhead the development & co-creation of the overall business strategy and key performance indicators
  • Drive growth and delivery of commercial results in line with the company strategy
  • Coordination of the planning, budgeting, and reporting process ensuring the provision of timely, reliable and robust financial and management information for decision making
  • Drive timely and accurate reporting of all financial information in line with statutory and global standards and timelines

2.  Proactive Risk Management

  • Lead risk identification and mitigation across the business ensuring regular tracking and follow up on the implementation of agreed actions
  • Ensure controls are designed and operated adequately in line with Global Financial Controls Framework to mitigate key risks
  • Lead the Governance & Controls agenda for Ethiopia at the local Leadership Team (LT)
  • Keep track of changes and developments in the local laws and regulations and ensure full compliance with the requirements.

3. Accounting & Financial Controls

  • Drive timely and accurate reporting of all financial information in line with statutory and global standards and timelines
  • Work in conjunction with the Supply Chain & Customer Development teams to drive effective management of working capital across the business.
  • Lead the Governance & Controls agenda for Ethiopia at the local Leadership Team (LT)

4. Relationship Management

  • Management of relationships with the banks as part of the forex management strategy.
  • Management of the relationship with external auditors and ensure compliance with global timelines
  • Management of relationships with all Tax Authorities and other Government agencies ensuring full compliance to local laws and regulations
  • Management of relationship with Unilever internal stakeholders ensuring they are kept abreast of key business activities and their input sought where necessary.

5. Transformation Projects:

  • Provide leadership for selected Finance global and local transformation projects implementation
  • Drive end-to-end financial process excellence for strategic business projects ensuring any control gaps and risks are identified and mitigated before project Go-live
  • Be the catalyst for change and improvement by challenging the status quo and exploring new ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness

6. People Development:

  • Proactively drive performance management, career planning, development planning and succession planning for team and self

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or any related Business Management qualification
  • Professional qualification in accounting e.g. ACCA, CIA, CIMA, CPA, etc
  • Proven working experience in Finance Function Leadership in a complex operating environment with overall 8-10 years experience in Financial Management, Risk Management and Compliance
