General Information 

Duty station: Addis Ababa, with frequent travel to the project areas

Job Title: WASH Systems-Based Approach Manager

Reports to: Head of Programs

Contract Period: 1 year with possibility of extension

Job Description

Responsible for the overall coordination and management of operational project and personnel, material and financial resource including submitting regular reports to all relevant stakeholders. Responsible for strengthening, supporting, developing and managing WASH systems approaches for the whole WASH program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall implementation of WASH Systems-Based Approach.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and manage the overall operational activities of the WASH Systems-Based Approach
  • Design annual and quarterly physical, financial and personnel plan of the allocated projects based on WHH and donor guidelines.
  • Ensure that the projects’ team understands project’s objectives, theory of change and design, translated project goals into project plans that guide day to day work
  • Provision of regular technical assistance and supportive supervision to project staff. Also facilitate the capacity development of colleagues and partners. 
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and conduct the familiarization of project team and stakeholders with the project approaches.
  • Monitor activities achieved through physical supervision and field reports.
  • Facilitate and coordinate performance improvement review meetings and workshops on quarterly, biannually, and annual basis with stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with key government partners, research institute and NGOs working on the WASH system strengthening approach
  • Adhere to the administrative policy of WHH in all courses of action.
  • Provide information about the project as per the regulations of WHH
  • Ensured that systems are in place and implemented to regularly collect data that identifies project progress relative to goals; closely monitored progress towards the desired project results and pursued to understand the causes of poor performance when it occurs.
  • Produce periodic project performance reports according to the requirements of the donor and government WASH line bureaus: Monthly, quarterly, annual, interim and final reports
  • Liaising with relevant stakeholders including donors, learning institutions, networks and INGO representatives to identify opportunities, synergies and partnerships for WHH program.
  • Identify and actively participate in Systems-Based Approach/ Systems Strengthening network for learning, sharing and positioning of WHH as a WASH system strengthening focus organization.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirement

Education:

  • Master's Degree in social or natural sciences with strong experience in WASH projects and programs, additional trainings or experience in WASH and especially WASH systems strengthening is preferred

Work experience: Minimum of 7 years relevant experience, out of which 5 years should be related to WASH and/or rural community development projects.

Knowledge/Competence/Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with highly collaborative working style and strong willingness to learn, and ability to be a real team player.
  • Strong personal values including integrity, honesty, proactive and flexible
  • Understanding major national, regional and donor policies/issues and partnership management
  • Experience in proposal and donor report writing
  • Strong personal commitment to WHH’s vision, mission and goals; and to put it into practice
  • Ability to work effectively in complex working environment, building successful work relationships across organizational, professional, and operational boundaries with key stakeholders, demonstrating excellent influencing and persuading skills with tact and diplomacy
  • Skillful in facilitating capacity development trainings
  • Experience in digital data gathering and management system and in development of WASH database system
  • Good computer skill in Microsoft office
