Job Description

The Corporate Lawyer is responsible and accountable for ensuring that the 54 FMCG Group 

Companies’ business strategies, policies, and programs are developed and applied in full 

recognition of legal implications and risks.

The Corporate Lawyer makes sure that the Group Companies are complying with the 

applicable laws and regulations of the land (as well as international laws where applicable) and 

works with all stakeholders to make sure they and their teams understand and respect the laws. 

He/she is protecting the company interests and assets and provides legal advice and actions 

in relation to legal cases, litigations and third-party management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The principal duties and responsibilities of the Corporate Lawyer (Group Legal Advisor) are:

  • Consult and handle all corporate legal processes in regards to, including but not limited to: mergers & acquisitions and other corporate transactions, intellectual property, compliance issues, commercial transactions, contracts and agreements, lawsuits and litigations, other legal matters, etc.;
  • Develop and continuously improve the Group policy and position on legal issues (Legal Manual);
  • Research, anticipate and protect the Group Companies against legal risks;
  • Advise and guide the Group Executive Team, managers and employees to ensure compliance awareness and practical compliance with rules and regulations;
  • Structure, draft and review reports, legal documents, legal letters, etc.;
  • Represent the Group Companies interests in legal proceedings (administrative boards, court hearings and litigations, arbitration, etc.);
  • Draft, review and administer all contracts and agreements;
  • Consult and assist stakeholders in negotiating the deals;
  • Liaise with government offices and agencies

Job Requirements

COMPETENCIES: 

  • Excellent knowledge of the Substantive and Procedural laws and legal frameworks of Ethiopia and practical knowledge of international laws
  • Commercial and Business awareness

  • Excellent negotiation and communications skills (in English and Amharic)
  • Analytical ability and strong attention to detail

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Law strongly preferable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role in a similar multinational corporate organization or Top private practice law office in Ethiopia, ideally experience in FMCG and foreign investments.
  • International experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Language skills: Proficient Spoken/Written knowledge of English and Amharic, preferably also Oromifa.
