Job Description

Context of the mission

Médecins du Monde (MDM) is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) involved in humanitarian interventions, operating in Ethiopia since 1986 in different types of health projects from long-term interventions to emergency response.

 Medecins du Monde is currently having health related operations in Oromiya and Afar region, with ongoing work to extend the area of interventions further. Medecins du Monde aim at providing health related services and support for those in need, without regard to their gender, origin, political opinion, or disabilities. Medecins du Monde is neutral and independent.

 The Finance department of Medecins du Monde is following the budget of the different projects, leading the accountancy, reporting to the donors and our Headquarter to insure efficiency of our financial ressources, transparency and legal obligations. 

 Hierarchical & Functional links

The Finance Assistant will be based in Addis, under the direct supervision of the Admin/Finance Manager.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

 The Finance Assistant will come to cover a maternity leave from one of our staff, he/she understand this is a short-term position. His main tasks will be:

 Cashier

  • Preparation of payment documentation and making payment once reviewed by the Finance Officer and approved by coordination
  • Preparation of cash reconciliation in link with Finance Officer on a weekly basis and for the monthly closure. The cash reconciliation will then be reviewed and sign by Admin Coordinator.
  • Filing of the cash book, the sending to the finance officer for him to add allocation, check the cash book and enter our accounting system

Archiving

  • Support to the archiving our vouchers for all the cash movement – clear labelled folder with one voucher stamped with supporting documentation for each entry of the cash book.
  • Making sure the folders with accountancy are organized in a logical and clear manner and that no book/month is missing

 Support during Financial closure

  • Helping with scanning of all the accountancy documentation and clear labelling of the pdf file, then transfer to Admin Manager to upload on the sharepoint for Headquarter review

Status: Short term contract for specific replacement

Basic salary: 11,990.00 ETB with 1,300.00 ETB transport allowance

Contract duration: 2 months (Maternity replacement of Finance Officer)

Country: Ethiopia 

Job Requirements

Expected Profile

  • Essential – BA degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Essential – Fluent in English and Amharic
  • Essential – Available starting early November for two months
  • Good knowledge of Excel is a plus
  • Good communication skill (orally and per mail/writing) is a plus
  • Respectful and professional attitude is a must (respect of working hours, respect of line manager request, formal communication within the office)
  • We expect a junior position, even recently graduated student is encouraged to apply, idea of this short-term mission to replace absence of a team member is to support and have a foot inside financial management of INGO.
