  Purpose of the position:

The Pharmaceutical logistics officer will work under the direction of the Health and Nutrition Grant Manager and will be responsible for the timely preparation and distribution of Emergency Health Kits to the districts and health facilities. S/he will support the distribution of emergency health kits and the overall supply chain system of pharmaceuticals management in collaboration with SWAN consortium partners. 

Major Responsibilities:

•  Lead timely preparation and distribution of Emergency Health Kits to the districts and health facilities. Support forecasting and quantification of emergency health kits obtained from SWAN, WHO, and UNFPA warehouses
•  Provide technical assistance in the distribution and transportation of emergency health kits. Ensure good storage and distribution practices of health kits at all districts supported by the project on a day to day basis
•  Assess training needs and provide capacity-building training to health workers on medical commodity supply chain management. Monitor the availability (pipeline) of essential medicines and medical supplies in the crisis areas.
• Ensure networking with zonal and district government offices, other SWAN consortium partners, non-governmental actors, and other stakeholders and serve as a focal point for essential Health Supplies Pipeline issues. Liaise with zonal/district health office and health cluster to ensure availability of Emergency health kits at all health facilities supported by the project.
• Provide regular supportive supervision on quality stock management of health kits using bin-card and stock cards at the health facility.   
• Prepare monthly and progress project reports on all the activities relating to essential medical supplies and support the documentation of the project’s best practices
• Participate in the rapid response team to provide humanitarian support to the conflict displaced people based on the gaps identified and discussion with consortium partners and health cluster coordinator
• Facilitate the translation and implementation of procedures and processes related to the quantification, distribution, rational use, and management of essential drugs at Health facilities.
• Ensure the proper Emergency health kits preparation, distribution, and implementation of the project as planned during the desired timeframe while ensuring efficient and effective utilization of project resources

Job Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years working experience managing pharmaceutical commodities, stock management warehousing, working and supporting Local National NGOs,
• Experience working in emergency sectors with INGOs at least three years of relevant experience in medical supplies with specific experience in Drugs and medical supply chain management and knowledge of the Health systems in Ethiopia.
• A Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
• A master degree in logistics and supply chain management
• Knowledge of GIK management experiences in NGO
• Ability to interact effectively with in all level of government health sector officials & staffs, and to maintain collaborative working relationships within other team.
• Strong English communication skills, both interpersonal and written

Working Environment / Conditions:

• Work environment: Office-based 50%
• Travel: 50% project site, RO, HO and CPO travel
• On call: 25%
