Job Description

As an International Christian Humanitarian Development organization, World Vision Ethiopia (WVE) is trusted to deliver integrated programs with target communities through its 51 Area programs (APs) located in seven regional states of the country. WVE envisions a thriving organization where our strong leadership at all levels results in improved delivery of results for children.

Purpose of the position:

The Child Protection System Strengthening Specialist will be accountable for the formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of WVE’s child protection programming, with a focus on putting in place sustainable community-based child protection structures and systems. This work will be undertaken within the context of the broader WVE’s commitment to ensure the protection and wellbeing of children in its operational areas and beyond by rolling out core programs models and tools to ensure the prevention and response to all forms of violence against children. This includes; Transforming harmful norms, perceptions, and practices; advocating for enforcing laws and policies relevant to child protection, and scaling up the digital technology for child protection incident management.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the endeavors of community awareness-raising, local capacity building, and policy influencing through a media campaign, dialogue, and consultation with child protection actors and government stakeholders to improve the child protection systems and structures at all levels.
  • Undertakes regular field visits to Area programs (APs) implementing child protection technical program (E-Child TP) to assess child protections risk factors in each local context and work out possibilities of replicating the digital technology for reporting and case management of child protection incidents.
  • Design, prepare and publish information, communication, and education (IEC) materials aiming at awareness-raising, attitudinal change, and initiate actions for ending all forms of violence against children
  • Monitors, analyses and evaluate project results to ensure achievement of objectives and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines, and good practices for child protection programming in the context of world vision.
  • Participate in meetings with relevant coordination forums, local authorities, other actors, and donors to discuss and represent WVE’s work

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, child protection systems strengthening as it relates to government institutions, learning, and development, or other relevant fields.
  • Relevant experience in child protection and related areas, program/project development, and management is required
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing child protection training to a variety of stakeholders, in particular to national authorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in building/enhancing networks for public dialogue purposes and developing and implementing effective public engagement strategies
  • Proven knowledge of community development and sound beneficiary feedback mechanism methodologies and the ability to work in a participatory manner developing shared ownership and vision
  • Strong skills in participatory program planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and knowledge management, and quality reporting
  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English and the local language
  • Analytical skills of field data, good writing report, and presentation
  • Influencing individuals and groups for the purpose of standing against harmful traditional practices
  • Direct case management and experience working with children and adolescents is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of international technical guidelines and standards in Child Protection

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based
  • Travel: travel to project site, RO, CPO and AP
  • On call: 25%
