We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Snr. Database Administrator  within IT in Technology and Information Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below. 

Detailed Description 

Reporting to the Manager, Cloud Infrastructure and Applications, the position holder will be responsible for administration, performance tuning, capacity planning, management, and support of all Enterprise Database (DB) Systems. The databases span from Oracle DB, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, and Hadoop-related database platforms.

Job Responsibilities 

• Database administration and support lifecycle including backup/recovery automation/and maintenance.
• Regular database patching with minimal downtime.
• Ensure upgrades to databases with minimal impact to customers.
• Ensure 24/7 availability of databases.
• Ensure all database systems are monitored and KPIs are met.
• Ensure response and closure of tickets raised as per SLA.
• Identify and implement best practices for Database Administration Team;
• Ensuring adherence to licensing regimes.
• Work closely with application teams to ensure database systems are adequately tuned.
• Build and lead a team of world-class database administrators.
• Define KPIs for team members.
• Design BCP and HA solutions for critical systems to achieve zero downtime during maintenance and failures;
• Ensure Conformance to security standards for databases and data integrity;
• Develop retention policies and architecture for all systems, whilst maintaining BCP;
• Ensure regular reviews on ILM policies conducted;
• Ensure dimensioning of systems is done periodically based on demand experienced and projected;
• Ensure optimal performance of all systems maintained conforming to the SLA agreements between business and Quality Assurance.
• Automation and continuous improvement
• Lead strategic efforts on database modernization
• Work closely with partners and vendors, ensuring strict adherence to SLA and laid down KPIs

Job Requirements

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or Technical Related Field;
• With at least 7 years of hands-on experience in managing large databases;
• 7+ Years Oracle, MySQL, and MSSQL database administration required.
• Experience in Oracle RAC, Dataguard, RMAN, and engineered systems.
• Experience in Linux/Unix and Windows Server Operating system.
• Knowledge on cloud and DB as a service capability.
• Database Systems Administration Techniques – understanding of DB Performance tuning on various Operating Systems, good troubleshooting skills, Database Migration, and ILM techniques
• Attention to detail and analytical thinking.
• Ability to organize and plan work independently
• Ability to deconstruct complex database requirements and provide expert advice to the business.
• Proven ability to build and grow a world-class database administration team.
• Excellent written and oral capability.
• Proven vendor management expertise.
• Certifications – OCP, OCE; EXADATA Administration; MSSQL Server Administration; Hadoop Administration; Linux/UNIX certification
