Background information

German Leprosy and TB Relief Association (GLRA/DAHW (Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe) is non-Government organization with East -Africa Region of DAHW/GLRA in Ethiopia and Headquarters in Germany, addressing health (especially on the aspects of leprosy, Tuberculosis and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)), Inclusion, Humanitarian Aid and Research in an innovative way. GLRA East Africa is active in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen

Presently DAHW/GLRA East Africa is looking for highly motivated and experienced Medical coordinator for DAHW/GLRA –East Africa office. 

Purpose of the Job

The Medical coordinator provides high-level strategic guidance and technical support to DAHW and national programs in each GLRA East African country on the fields of leprosy, tuberculosis, TB/HIV, NTD, research and high quality delivery of innovative project proposals. The position requires some travel within East Africa and internationally as needed.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a regional strategy for DAHW Medical activities
  • Responsible to oversee the whole project cycle of GLRA East-Africa Medical programs/ projects (conceptualization, planning, design, implementation and evaluation) and to ensure high technical quality and adherence to GLRA and/or donor-related standards during all stages
  • Responsible to coordinate and oversee the overall activities of Medical team of GLRA East Africa
  • Research and identify suitable sources of funding
  • Pro-actively seek and be responsible for co-funding opportunities, new alliances, strategies and partners in close co-operation with Regional Representative and East African Team at the HQ
  • Assist Regional Representative with validation of projects& M&E
  • Analyze and report on challenges, problems and gaps encountered in these fields with recommendations for solutions

Duty Station: Addis Ababa/Ethiopia

Employment type: Fixed term for two years with possibility of extension

Job Requirements

 Required Qualification and Experience

  • Medical Doctor with public health master
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in leading medical team
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Training in TB ,leprosy, TB/HIV and NTD is a plus
  • Strong strategic capability
  • Proven ability of achieving organizational goals
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and stakeholder management
  • Previous work experience in national and/or international Non –governmental organizations is advantageous
  • Strong writing, communication and presentation skills
