Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the planned activities are implemented according to the work plan within the planned budget with good quality as per the national and IMC standards
  • Prepare and coordinate zonal level trainings, workshops and other meetings
  • Develop the staff capacity according the gaps identified and report to his/her immediate supervisor and the deputy national nutrition program manager or national nutrition program manager when need arises for further support
  • Develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance measures and ensure appropriate follow up.
  • Serve as nutrition resource person at field sites.
  • Consult and work with the International Medical Corps professional field staff in the treatment of malnourished children and IYCF component.
  • Plan and conduct nutritional assessments following the nationally approved survey protocol.
  • Help the TFP, SFP and IYCF team in any task when required
  • Conduct critical monitoring of all aspects of the CMAM program, and identify areas of concern or problems. Submit workable solutions for any problems found.
  • Lead the development of a referral mechanism and locally feasible communication strategies for referrals between health facilities.
  • Ensure strong linkage of nutrition components with other components of the project such as WASH.
  • Support the CMAM supervisors, IYCF nurse and OTP/SC nurses to establish reporting systems and data flow mechanisms and ensure proper functioning of the systems for regular assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the program against its objectives and expected results.
  • Represent International Medical Corps in nutrition coordination meetings at regional and zonal levels with the government bodies, international agencies, other NGOs and donors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.
  • Compile and submit weekly, bi-weekly and monthly routine TFP, IYCF and SFP report
  • Compiling statistical data and draft appropriate reports on activities
  • Document lessons learned and best practices at the project level
  • Checking that all the supplies are listed in the register
  • Participate in the follow-up of supplies consumption and orders
  • Ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for the functioning of SFP and TFP (weekly, monthly or quarterly)
  • Make monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies
  • In liaison with the program manager, establishing network with the other actors in the area
  • Develop productive working relationships with Government, Non-Governmental institutions and other project partners
  • Participate in the relevant meetings and other related forum at Woreda or zonal level
  • Conduct regular meetings with the nutrition program staffs to discuss and document lessons learned
  •  Assist in organization of project workshop and seminars, including preparation of short reports
  •  Perform other activities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Training/education/experience/physical demands required; provide 6-8 requirements)

  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to effectively work with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other International Medical Corps relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English. Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in course of work.
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and familiarity with nutrition surveys (Coverage, standard and KAP surveys).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in ensuring community participation and gender issues in humanitarian programming

Qualification: Masters degree in Nutrition/public health from recognized learning institution plus 4years of experience in related field 

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field of study with 8 years of experience in related field 
  • Experience working on emergency/development projects specially on nutrition and BCC
  • Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft applications
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
