SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. We started our humanitarian work in Ethiopia with the opening of our first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. Since then, we have expanded our programs to different regions where there are significant needs for intervention and where we believe we can work in partnership with all relevant actors to bring sustainable positive outcomes for children’s and young people.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and those that are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; we aspire that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for an Assistant Construction Coordinator who will be responsible to ensuring the timely provision and delivery of all required project financial, administrative, compliance and grants, procurement and contracts support to the execution.

Your role...

While working with us an Assistant Construction Coordinator 

  • Provide leadership, supervise, monitor and evaluate construction projects/ sites/ program locations to effect sound Project Management, Financial and Administrative with due diligence.
  • Prepare weekly as well as monthly progress reports, both financial and physical status, for the respective.
  • Assesses the status of each SOS facilities/ properties and propose a detailed maintenance or renovation plan quarterly.
  • Prepare national maintenance guideline and checklist.
  • Train the handymen’s or Care professionals of each family houses of program locations on the maintenance checklist.
  • Execute operational planning/ budgeting procedures and tools outlined in SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia Standard Operating Procedures that require technical units to provide adequate advance notice of support needs to financial, administrative, logistical, HR, and procurement units.
  • Assist the National Office and Program Locations during the annual maintenance plan, renovation works, construction projects and maintenance and repair works.
  • Ensure compliance of construction project operations with SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia policies and guidelines.
  • Create transparent reports to the construction progress, tracking actual cost estimations, checking the budget and other relevant information according to construction progress.
  • Ensure efficiency in construction projects and checking, implementing construction policies, standards and processes.

Job Requirements

Education

  • BSc degree in Civil engineering 

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in building construction projects, a full project accomplishment is a big plus.

Other Requirements

  • Has a certification in Auto CAD, Structural Software’s (SAP, STAD Pro, Rivet or other) and Work Scheduling Software’s (MS Project or Primavera)
  • Able to work with Microsoft office, excel, work, PowerPoint and others
  • Understand and able to prepare working drawings, BoQ and technical specification
  • Strong report writing skills demonstrated through high quality contributions to work plans and progress reports
  • Successful track record in a supervisory role and in providing feedback and guidance to administration personnel
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a fast-paced context and across cultures
