Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone and we never give up.

Level: Internship

Location: Ethiopia

Categories: Finance and Administration

Employment Type: 6 months, Full-Time

For every child, an advocate

The Harmonized Approach to Cash Transfers (HACT) is under the leadership of the Deputy Representative Operations. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, there is a team of three staff members directly working on HACT and assurance activities, and the HACT HUB staff who are mainly involved in cash transfer processes.

HACT is a cross-cutting issue and the main framework for cash transfer to partners. HACT comprises four major elements that serve as pillars in the implementation of the HACT principles. These are Capacity assessments, Cash Transfers, Assurance Activities and Capacity Development. A cash transfer to Implementing Partners (IP) represents a significant portion of UNICEF’s financial contribution towards the achievement of its programmatic results. For this reason, it is necessary that we continue to use systems and controls for the purpose of monitoring the status of implementation of activities and to generate and review financial and management reports to identify areas of potential concern. Therefore, an intern will support the HACT team in carrying out assurance activities, upload of reports on eTools, organizing documentation for spot checks and audit for external service providers, and following up on pending action points.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the HACT Specialist, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in compiling data for spot check and audit of external service providers;
  • Upload spot check and other reports on eTools;
  • Support follow up on pending assurance action actions;
  • Support in preparation of periodic reports;
  • Assist in spot checks as required; and
  • Support in facilitating capacity development training.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Enrolment at a university in Ethiopia at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate (within the past two years) in Accounting/Finance or related field is required
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures and working environments
  • Fluency in English - this is required
