Reports To: Head of Sustainability - Beer & Africa
Location: Various Diageo Africa Sites - EABL (Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania), Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa.
Context/Scope:
This role is positioned within the Global sustainability Team; the post holder will provide direction and guidance on sustainability issues for the Africa Markets, plus drive the environmental agenda in line with our strategic goals.
This will be done by establishing the ruthless focus on our current ways of working, driving improvements and best practices across the Africa Markets sites. By working closely with the Africa Governance and utility teams this person will be expected to build excellent working relationships with representatives, from each of the sites, Supply Chain Directors and Global teams.
The Africa Markets Sustainability Lead will be accountable for environmental performance, regional compliance and alignment with the Global Sustainability 2030 strategy across the Africa markets.

This role will have no direct budgetary responsibilities but will influence future spending within the Africa Markets in relation to environmental sustainability.
Diageo produces brewed products and mainstream spirits in fifteen operations locations across nine markets in Africa. Production sites in each market manufacture a portfolio of Global and Local brands and thirteen of these production sites are located in water-stressed areas. Globally Diageo is an industry leader in terms of spirits production and supplies products across the globe including the nine markets across Africa.
It is important that the current business reduces its environmental impact, and expands in an environmentally sustainable manner, and the role requires an understanding of what this would mean for these sites, with c.4000 employees.
The role holder will need to be flexible in approach and build detailed legislative knowledge within the region working with global teams at the strategic level.
As part of the Beer & Africa Markets Sustainability team, the role will work as part of this small team or alone and engage with local site management to influence, guide and support on sustainability issues.
The role will lead the Africa Markets environmental sustainability tiered reporting, providing clear direction and support across the region.
The Africa Markets Sustainability Lead will be accountable for delivering required performance and strategic interventions as the lead subject matter expert for the Africa Markets.
Purpose of Role
The purpose of this role is to develop and drive a sustainable business for the Africa Markets with emphasis on energy, carbon, water, waste, packaging & wider sustainability initiatives. Embedding the correct culture is key to the delivery of the above.
