 Act to End NTDs | East is a five-year cooperative agreement through which RTI supports national neglected tropical disease (NTD) programs to reach WHO NTD control and elimination goals through proven, cost-effective public health interventions which span the regions of Oromia, Tigray, Beneshangul-Gumuz and Gambella.

 Position Summary:

The Cashier Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance and Grants Manager in delivering the Financial Team Objectives in a timely and accurate manner. S/he will support appropriate systems and procedures (cash management, vendor payments and Asset management) to properly disburse, steward and account for project funds which are cost effective, timely, have proper internal controls and comply with the terms of the agreement. S/he will collaborate closely with the Finance Manager, Procurement Officer and Grants Officer to provide support and assistance as needed. The Cashier Accountant will have frequent field trips to effect payments in relation to workshops and trainings. S/he is responsible for maintaining records of fixed assets and stock items and periodically conducting physical inventory.

Job Functions:-

  • Cash Transactions: Make payments by reviewing the supporting and source documents as per organizational policy and procedures; Collects cash for settlement of outstanding advances from staff and deposits in the bank; Ensure that all cash transactions are fully and properly documented and supported.
  • Workshops/trainings: Support setting up of workshops, arrange hotel bookings and settle hotel bills. Make training payments by collecting letter of participation and maintaining attendance sheet and  by collecting all needed supporting documents on trainings, and preparing payment sheets. Summarize the expenses of trainings and other payments by codes and submit for review and approval.
  •  Monthly reports and payments: Ensure that payments are prepared and effected timely in regard of periodic and monthly obligations such as payroll income tax remittances, Private Pension Scheme fund contributions, withholding taxes etc. Ensure VAT claims are submitted on a monthly basis and follow up timely refund.
  • Cash Vouchers: Support collection and filing of all cash and bank vouchers, maintain Voucher Filing Systems such that files are: up-to-date, complete and safe-guarded. Provides important documents and information to Finance Officers for program report preparation.
  • Other Tasks: Other tasks as required.

(Temporary Employment- 6 months with no contract extension)

Job Requirements

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a large firm.
  • Experience of working with USAID project preferable
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in basic accounting practices and related position
