Job Description

Ethiopian Construction Design and Supervision Works Corporation (ECDSWCo.) is transforming and diversifying from the current consultancy business operations. Taking advantage of the existing ECDSWCo.’s strength and maximizing on the newly emerging external opportunities that are being prevalent with the shifts in Ethiopian Economic Policy – the Corporation is aiming to play a significant role to the success of the Ethiopian Construction Industry -by creating a vibrant business institution that will not only fill the gap that is in the current construction industry, but also replace the need for having international construction companies that are dominating the government mega scale projects.

To this, the Corporation is emerging as an Engineering and Investment Group. The proposed name of the Group is ‘’Ethiopian Engineering and Investment Group (EEIG)’’. The Group will comprise of three main operational business units i.e., Consultancy, Construction and Investment.

 EEIG-Construction business unit key activities are high-end complex construction projects, predominately high-rise commercial and residential buildings, real-estate; infrastructure (roads, railways and airports) & water and energy sector construction. EEIG-Construction alone would grow into a conglomerate of several business units including Piling, underground and foundation Works, Fit-Out, Energy (Solar Solutions), Electro- Mechanical Solution, Facility Management, Landscape and Construction Materials Production.

EEIG Construction is launched with the vision of being the best construction company in Ethiopia with a strategy of Timeously executing high-end complex projects, by utilizing proactive management skills as a Design and Build Contractor in order to achieve an optimum return and aspiring to be a competitive and preferred choice that can replace the current dependence on international contractors and deliver excellence. Position Overview/Scope of role:

Responsible planning, leading, organizing, and supervising the day to day activities of the Workshop and controlling the quality of repairs of the machines & equipment’s available at worksite. 

Top Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage maintenance and repairs in and out of the workshop
  • Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment, both in the shop and at the project sites.
  • Ensures that all equipment is completely inspected at least once a year and is calibrated based on the manufacturer’s recommendations or government standard.
  • Ensures the maintenance shop is properly maintained, functional and clean.
  • Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance schedule on equipment.
  • Establishes service schedules on equipment for warranty compliance.
  • Supports on the job projects including identifying all sources of equipment maintenance, repair and spare parts.
  • Ensures the ready status of idle equipment.
  • Develops and maintains files on all equipment for historical data.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with other divisions of the company.
  • Capable of following the repair process from fault analysis to completion as well as supervising and guiding others
  • Manage small mobile team of mechanics incl. safety, performance and conformance monitoring
  • Prioritize and delegate work within the team.
  • Manage and control the stock of supplies and order
  • Ensure paperwork is complete and accurate

Job Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Diploma in general mechanic’s /Auto mechanics.
  • More than 10 years of experience as workshop manager for Heavy & Light vehicles; Earth-moving and other construction machinery.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Critical criteria/Skill to be successful in this role:

  • Responds effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts and draws valid conclusions
  • Organizes and manages time, duties and activities efficiently
  • Ability to analyze data for evaluation of equipment efficiency

Experience as workshop manager in international companies is advantageous
