Introduction

BAN-Development Research Center for Excellence (BAN-DRCE) is a value driven consultancy firm providing consultancy and research, technical assistance, capacity building services to its clients in the government, non-government, business, philanthropy, inter-governmental bodies and development community. With over 7 years in development, financial, social and market research practice in Ethiopia and beyond, our firm has become one of leading research and consultancy firm in Ethiopia specializing in development researches, survey and analysis for both quantitative and qualitative research approaches to uncover actionable insights for its clients.

BAN-DRCE is currently undertaking “The Rising Cost Of Living in Addis Ababa City: Causes and Solutions” grand research commissioned by Addis Ababa City Government Plan and Development Commission. The Overall, objective of the research is to examine and understand the subsequent increase in price of commodities, access to basic services, and utilities, service delivery of various natures that are severely affecting the life of residents in Addis Ababa specially the poor.

With this notion our firm is planning to engage qualified field research assistants (data collectors) with proven skills in both qualitative and quantitative data collection in Addis Ababa.  

Purpose 

The purpose of assignment is collecting qualitative and quantitative data at in all Sub-Cites of Addis Ababa. 

The data collectors shall collect the data using predesigned data collection instruments (Household and traders Survey for quantitative data and semi structured questioners for qualitative data). The data collectors shall gather and present the collected data according to the format provided by the firm. 

Outputs and Deliverables

  • Deliver the qualitative data/result report based on the provided semi structured questioners. The data collectors will provide separate result report or answer for each questions accordingly.
  • Deliver the quantitative data using the predesigned format survey tool. 
  • Submit the final collected data in the form of result report.
  • For qualitative data both raw handwriting document which were directly collected from stakeholders and report compiled in computer (result report which is written separately for each questioner).
  • For quantitative format data base will be used. 

Responsibilities of Data Collectors

  • Attend the induction session prepared by BAN-DRCE Consultancy. The data collectors shall sign the code of conduct and entire data collection agreement document and adhere to it.
  • Participate on the training of data collection team with full attendance and participation;
  • Review the protocol, understand the purpose of the data collection and internalize the quantitative and qualitative data collection tools/guide
  • Conduct pre-testing of the data collection instrument and carry out the data collection:
  • Record all the obtained answers from beneficiaries and partners using the data collection tool.
  • Submit the raw data for qualitative questions which were collected directly from the partners.
  • Participate and present the result in consultative meeting (debriefing) with BAN-DRCE staff
  • Submit the final report both summary and transcription (for qualitative data).

Job Requirements

 Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Management, Education, Psychology, Economics, Development studies, social work or related fields
  • Not less than two years of experience in collecting data with relevant government, NGOs, and private business companies.
  • Preference will be given to field researchers with experience in household consumption and expenditure surveys. Experience in data collection particularly CAPI use is essential
  • A good understanding of work environment and critical ethical consideration in data collection process is mandatory
