The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated, and qualified person to fill:

Position: Economic Security Generalist 2

Grade: B2

Duration of Contract: One-year fixed term contract (Extension of position cannot be anticipated now as it depends only on budget availability)

 Location: Addis Ababa with frequent visits to Amhara, Afar, and Western Tigray

:Objective

To ensure the work of the Economic Security department is managed efficiently and effectively in line with an established guideline. GENERAL ICRC DUTIES

  • Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct.
  • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times.
  • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times.
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers.
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Economic Security Generalist 3, has the following responsibilities:

  • Collect data using the household economy approach to identify economic security gaps and develop scenarios.
  • Based on an analysis of EcoSec core components (food consumption/production, living conditions, income support and capacity-building), contribute to identifies response options and assesses whether cash or in-kind aid is more appropriate and feasible.
  • Contribute to designs a suitable method for registering beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to integrates best practice in terms of accountability to beneficiaries throughout the programme-cycle design
  • Contribute in ensures that proper methods, planning, implementation, logistics and reporting are used during aid distribution and can explain them.
  • Contribute to a market assessment, to analyzing and interpreting data in order to select and design response options (Feasibility, methods, and delivery of cash transfer programming, transfer value, vulnerability and targeting)
  • Contribute in mid-level qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Contribute in describes results and produces data visualizations.
  • Implement a typical EcoSec program
  • Establishes/maintains good relationships with the ERCS representatives in the field (branch secretary, volunteers, etc.), ensuring that the branch representatives are aware of ICRC’s presence, program and activities.
  • Contributes to the ERCS branches’ capacity building in EcoSec activities, through training and coaching (e.g. data collection).
  • Contributes to implement resilience programs (Agro, livestock and income support)
  • Contribute to monitoring (PDM and PHM)
  • Contributes to analyzing the security, socioeconomic, cultural and political environment as it relates to the ICRC.
  • Contributes to internal reporting.
  • Contributes to organizing and delivering capacity-building activities.
  • Maintains a network of interlocutors (members of the population, community leaders, local authorities, NGOs, etc.) and updates/shares a list of interlocutors 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments.
  • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contracts relevant to the position.
  • Collects and shares information so as to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.
  • Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development.
  • Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people, including people of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Job Requirements

  • University Degree in Economics, Anthropology, Agronomy or related field
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in similar function.
  • Very good command of spoken & written English and Amharic
  • Valid 3rd grade driving license
  • Good computer skills
