Job Description

Background 

Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) is a non-profit organization registered in Ethiopia working to improve the health of Ethiopians. CCP is currently implementing a five-year project under the Integrated Youth Activity with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), With Amref Health Africa and its consortium of partners. The primary target of the project is the urban youth 15-29 years.

Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (JHU-CCP) Ethiopia would like to hire a consultant to assist in the development of a Social and Behavior Change (SBC) strategy and a youth focused transmedia campaign under the Integrated Youth Activity. 

Scope of Work:

 SBC Strategy Development (13 days total in November and December 2021)

  • Assist in the development and preparation of a consultative workshop to develop the SBC strategy for the Integrated Youth Activity. The workshop includes key stakeholders from GOE and partners as well as priority audiences. (3 days)
  • Develop an outline for the SBC strategy and agree with CCP team. (Included in the 3 days above)
  • Facilitate the SBC strategy development workshop ensuring that the different thematic areas under the project’s purview are adequately discussed and all necessary content for the SBC strategy is obtained through a consultative process. (5 days)
  • Develop the first draft of the SBC strategy according to the agreed upon outline and based on the outcome of the consultative workshop. (5 days)

Development of the Transmedia campaign (35 days total in December 2021 – April 2022)

  • Prepare for and facilitate a series of workshops with relevant project teams, creative individuals and partners including the GOE to develop content for the transmedia campaign and design different elements/media of the campaign and mapping the content of the campaign across all media. (15 days)
  • Develop a design document for the transmedia campaign based on the consultative workshops and discussions with the CCP team. (10 days)
  • Train CCP transmedia producers in developing engaging stories that fit the design of the transmedia campaign. (10 days)

 Office Hours

  • Less than 30 hours per week. (For 45 days)
  • Working hours shall be between 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. in the morning and 1:30 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. in the afternoon.
  • Working days are between Monday to Friday except public holidays falling within these days, in which case the Consultant shall be off duty. 

Job Requirements

Required Educational Background, Experience and Skills

  • Master’s degree in public health or other Social Science fields
  • At least 10 years work experience in designing and implementing youth centered SBC programs
  • Experience with program design and implementation as well as media development
  • Fluent in English and strong writing and presentation skills. 
  • Good understanding of the Ethiopian media landscape
  • Familiarity with CCP models, theories and processes would be extremely beneficial
  • Familiarity with the Ethiopian public health system is a plus
