Background

 On behalf of YNSD, The Talent Firm is recruiting for a Finance Officer. YNSD is a non- Governmental non-profit making indigenous organization with major program areas of Youth Empowerment, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS and Environment specifically on climate change.

 Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) in partnership with Amref Health Africa implements Kefeta in Adama, Bishoftu and two subcitys in Addis Ababa. Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youths who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity.

Kefeta will strengthen the youth ecosystem in Ethiopia with integrated, multi-sectoral, youth-centered programming aligned with the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach.

 Job Summary: The Finance officer is responsible for the finance mater of the Project. Also working within the program and Finance Staff to successfully implement the organization’s objectives and financial policies and procedures in the areas of finance; effective planning, organizing, executing and reporting to stakeholders and donors. She/he is responsible for establishing collaborative relationships with executing the donor organization and partner organizations.

Reports to: Administration and Finance Head

Primary duties and responsibilities: The Finance Officer performs the following duties and responsibilities.

  • Maintaining of proper financial documents and records by the budget line item.
  • Prepare payment sheets, payment Voucher,
  • Prepare consolidated financial reports and compliance summaries.
  • Preparing financial reports monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and annually
  • Maintaining internal control for cash inflow and outflow
  • Perform Project audit by external auditors
  • Ensure that all grants management and reporting are compliant with USAID grants management regulations for the USAID funded project.
  • Follow-up on the grant files updated with budgets, grant contracts and agreements
  • Oversee the preparation and timely submission of grant technical and financial reports and budget transfers
  • Participates and assists program staff in finance related issues
  • Organizes and conduct need based financial management training to relevant staff
  • Maintains inventory records and ensure proper use of organizational resources.
  • Carries out accounting function of the project such as preparing payment documents after checking its completeness and accuracy, annualizing transactions, and recording financial data.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:-

  • BA Degree in Accounting and Finance
  • Years of experience; Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an NGO setting
  • Experience of similar work in a charity / voluntary sector setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work under pressure and keep to deadlines
  • Demonstrated skills and significant experience in finance 
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a small team
  • Experience in Peachtree accounting software
  • Proficiency in the English language both written and spoken
