The One Health for Humans, Environment, Animals and Livelihoods (HEAL) project applies a One Health approach to enhance the well-being and resilience of vulnerable communities in pastoralist and agro-pastoralist areas of Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.

The Project concluded its first year of the pilot phase and is expected to submit the annual report to the donor (SDC) by the end of the year. The yearly report intends to envelop testimonies, pictures, showcasing stories, short videos, Etc. The regional management unit has sought to outline the current expertise gap through an expert's headhunting/in-house capacity for a short-term assignment to pre-determined deliverables. Therefore, the work will be issued for not more than 2 months starting immediately possible with an agreed important deliverable. 

 Expected Tasks

S/N - Activities - Time Frame

1. Success story/case story illuminating the situations before HEAL intervention, HEAL’s contribution and the current changes – at least two success stories from each field office.  - December 15, 2021
2. Short video with subtitles (not more than 10 minutes) – the footage should showcase individual and system-level (clients and government entities) changes. One video at least in one field office is expected. - December 20, 2021
3. Photo Captions – pictures demonstrate the three pillar services, integrated services and system-level interventions. A full caption for each image/picture is expected. The images/pictures should also be with high-resolution quality applicable for any future use (web, social media to possibly giant billboard) - December 15, 2021
4. Produce project briefer with appropriate infographics – this requires project team members support and should be simple present the intervention, reaches and changes – 1 for each country and the person who will be taking the role for Ethiopia will compile and produce one project-level information. This might not be for the report but would be helpful for any project presentations. - December 25, 2021
5. Produce social media content – this could be skimmed from the above products. The expert is expected to produce a picture with content for social media, particularly for Twitter updates – at least one for each field office to select the best for the purpose. - December 25, 2021
6. Manage feedback from the consortium and regional team – the consultant is expected to seek feedback and inputs from the HEAL team and address accordingly within the deadline - December 30, 2021
7. Draft Communication Strategy for HEAL – this is an optional task to be managed by the expert deployed for Ethiopia in consultation with the regional team. - January 5, 2022

 General Purpose of the assignment:

To develop and ensure the effective communication of HEAL's contributions in the first year of the pilot phase to donors and stakeholders.  

Consultancy Duration

The consultant is expected to start on or before November 20, 2021. The work deliverables are expected to be completed no later than January 5, 2022

Job Requirements

Essential Criteria

• Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related fields of study with relevant experience. 
• Relevant experience in project outcome documentation (including but not limited to; case stories, photo captions, video footage production, and social media content developments) publications, ideally in an NGO or similar organization of at least five years
• Experience in developing and implementing communications strategies for NGOs
• Exceptional writing skills with proven ability to produce concise, well-structured and very high-quality written materials
• The ability to tailor writing towards different audiences
• Expertise/experience in photography and videography
• Highly competent in Microsoft office software
• Experience with graphic design in Photoshop is an asset

Skills and Abilities

• Proficient knowledge of English and ideally knowledge of any of the local languages spoken in the assigned intervention country;
• Willing and able to travel extensively remote field service outlets
